Landclass Tile Squares & Blending ??

Recommended Posts

Microsoft spent a considerable amount of money acquiring and and integrating excellent landclass tiles. At 1 meter resolution they are actually outstanding. However, the display of these tiles seems to create less than desirable elements. The picture shows an example at the Sitka, Alaska airport where squares are inserted for some unknown reason and are a visual distraction. Also, the boundary interface from tile to tile is, in some cases a stark straight line which is also visually odd. This is in contrast to the very nice blending within the tile.I am sure this has been gone over before but I am wondering, with the maturity of FSX, has someone developed a strategy to mitigate these visual anomalies?Regards,Dick BoleyA PC, an LCD, speakers, CH yokehttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/183904.jpg

Hi Dick.On my setup, if I set texture resolution to 30cm ( rather than 1 meter ) the squares become more variegated. The diagonal line is caused by a vector Park poly ( remember the old VTP2 polys? )... and that causes the sharp border. That could have been avoided if a photoreal poly with a blendmask was used.Dick

Yes, the 30cm resolution setting made it more palatable. Microsoft certainly violated one of Nature's prime rules - there is no straight line in Nature. There is a lifetime of work (really fun) correcting the subtle, but bothersome, things in FSX.Regards,Dick BoleyA PC, an LCD, speakers, CH yoke
