Trying to make photscenery

Recommended Posts

Guest Pilot533

Im trying to follow the photreal terrain tutorial from flightsim world.com, but I cant find the file bigjpeg.exe from the cox site or anywhere else on the net, does anyone know where i can get it? And I am also using usaphotomaps, which is a great tool but is there any way to set it to use a source other than ms terra server because ms terraserver is mostly in black and white. It would be great if It would use yahoo maps, since they have very good sat map coverage in the arera I am doing. If not can I just use the yahoo maps browser and somehow get it in the right format to make it into photoscenery.

Hi Mike:Dick Boleyd aka nudata made some outstanding photoscenery around San Francisco (not publicly distributed) using USA PhotoMaps:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...34710&mode=fullGottfried Razek has made some nice examples also:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...28596&mode=fullhttp://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...48018&mode=fullBTW, the "Big Jpeg" feature is accessed from the File pulldown menu in USA PhotoMaps. The FSX version of SBuilder has a greatly simplified method of making photoreal textures from background images captured from ASK, Yahoo, Google and MS Virtual Earth imagery tile servers; a nice Tutorial by Luis Feliz Tirado is found here:http://www.ptsim.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC...archTerms=FelizHope these links help get you inspired! :-) GaryGB

Hey,Thanks for the advice, I am trying to use sbuilder and it seems alot more user friendly, and I dont want to ahve to deal with coloring object, im trying to make a large amount of photoscenery, right now Im working on south florida, from lake okeechobee down. Im very new to this stuff and one quick question I have is, how do I get the sat image from manifold toolbar into sbuilder?

Hello Mike,The latest version of SBuilderX no longer uses the Manifold toolbar. Please see Make photo-real ground textures in Flight Simulator X in the Avsim library:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fsxsd&DLID=112595If you have already accumulated Manifold tiles, you will have to convert them to the new SBuilderX format. Please get Man2SBuilder, also in the library.Best regards.Luis

Hey,Thank you very much, great tutorial. SBuilder is also such a pleasure to use, gosh I never dreamed it could be so easy. Btw, am I legally allowed to distribute any of my work, or is it copyrighted material by google maps?

One other question, Is there any way to select a large number of tiles without having them on the screen, if not its gonna take a looong time ;).

Copyrighted, plus you will see watermarks in the tiles. For Us, you might want to check out USGS Seamless Server. Lots of south Fla data, including I found some 6 cm resolution data. I did a quick shot from some KSEF data I grabbed (in some cases the data aren't in geo projection so you might need some software to reproject). This is some KSEF with the default runways over the photo. BTW in USA Photo I think you can just scroll around to select a larger than monitor size area. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/185364.jpgscott s..

Thanks, btw about the monitor size, I was talking about sbuilder, it would be great if there was some way to load high res data even when zoomed out so you could cover more area, is there any way to do something like that?

Not in sbuilder AFAIK. Agree it takes some work to pan around to get a large enough area at say, zoom 14 or 15.scott s..

Looking very good! I'm working on a similar thing for EBBR. Now i want the AFX to be below the photoscenery, any idea how this is done? I've seen it in several (payware) scenery's.Regards, Gerrit
