Howdy,:)I'm trying to locate some good data to be used in creating a 30 meter mesh of New Jersey. The data I've located at http://seamless.usgs.gov/start.htm , seems to be corrupted. I've tried several times to download, but was met with un-usable dems. Unable to view or edit in "Microdem". The srtm files are loaded with lots of holes to be edited as are the hgt files. Northern NJ seems to be ok, but from middle to southern the data goes awry. Ant help in locating some decent data would be appreciated.ThanksPhil C.

Also, you might check your Winzip settings under the Miscellaneous tab. Something to the effect of smart CR/LF soemthing or other needs to be cleared. Don't recall the exact terminology at the moment.-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x

Hi Phil,If I remember correctly the .bil files for that area where coming out as 8 bit formats that are not compatable with Microdem or the resampler. Try getting the file in .tiff format, then use microdem to save it as a 16 bit .bsq file and then the resampler will be able to correctly make the scenery for you.Eddie

Hi Justin and Eddie,Yes, you were correct. I was downloading the BIL files and they were 8 bit (drat). I will try and down load the geo tifs for the same area. I'll let you know how I made out shortly. Many thanks.Phil

Hi Phil,Those BIL files are probably only 8-bit because that's all that is required for such small elevaton values. :)I've written a small DOS utility to convert them to 16-bit, since BIL files are much smaller and download faster. You have to edit the hdr file as well if you want to read the data into Microdem. The readme file has a bit more information. http://www.fs-traveler.com/cgi-bin/convbits.zipYou may want to check out my page describing a small problem with positions when using NED seamless data with Microdem: http://www.fs-traveler.com/sdds-test.shtmlSteve

Hi Steve,Thanks sir. I checked out and it works great. Still got an "I/O error 103" in Microdem, but the bgl turned out good. Thanks for another VALUABLE tool to add to my collection.:) ThanksPhil C.
