1" NED FTP?

Recommended Posts

Is there another source for downloading 1-arc sec NED data (30m) other than the usgs seamless site? I thought I had bookmarked an FTP site, but now that I've reinstalled a bunch of stuff, its gone - if it was there to begin with. Seamless is just too slow for me...;)Thanks in advance!Best,sg

Hi Scott,"Is there another source for downloading 1-arc sec NED data (30m) other than the usgs seamless site?"I don't believe so. Since "The dataset provides seamless coverage ...", all online requests for NED data are generated on the fly. However, from the SDDS site: "Q: Where can I get data?A: You can get data at SDDS. Free downloads are available for areas up to 30 square degrees latitude and longitude in 100mb files. Any size area is available for $32 per CD, plus $45 base charge and $5 handling. The formats available are ArcGrid, BIL, GridFloat, and TIFF.Bulk or Box Sets of CD's are also available for 30m NED. The cost is $3520, plus $45 base charge and $5 handling. The formats available are ArcGrid and GridFloat. You can search and order at http://earthexplorer.usgs.gov for the full dataset or single CD's. "(For that price, I'll throw in 60m data for Alaska and 10m data for about 1/4 of the mainland US as well!)30m SRTM data is available via FTP, but I don't recommend it for the US."Seamless is just too slow for me..."In what respect? * requesting data: I use a spreadsheet and macro program to automate the details - especially entering coordinates. One coordinate and an LOD value is all the spreadsheet requires to generate the appropriate coordinates for 32 adjacent files covering a nominal 2x2 degree area. (This keeps the raw file sizes under their 100MB limit for free downloads, even for 10m data.)* interface/download speed: When I was downloading data regularly, I could detect the system starting to slow down about 7 AM EST. Of course this "early bird" strategy does not appeal to everyone, which is why it worked so well.Stevesupport@fs-traveler.comPS: Thanks for the FREEflow-NE-USA data. Nice work.

Since my broadband access is from my day-job (!), I guess I'll just need to be patient...>PS: Thanks for the FREEflow-NE-USA data. Nice work. You're welcome! Have you checked out the florida keys? That scenery will be expanding to the entire florida peninsula in another week or so...Best,sg
