Identifying GMAX

Recommended Posts

Guest

I'm just starting to get into Ttools to add different planes to the AI traffic. The readme says I should stick to GMAX planes to make my life easier. I have downloaded bunches of planes, some GMAX, some not.Is there any way I can easily tell which planes I have downloaded are GMAX? If not I will just redownload tons of GMAX craft to use as AI.Thanks

The easiest way I've been able to tell, is that non-GMAX aircraft wont' display any landing gear! The planes will just 'float' above the ground as though the gear was there, but you can't see them. There aren't yet 'tons' of GMAX aircraft, but the numbers are climbing.

Hey, you're right! There AREN'T tons of GMAX stuff out there. I did find a BAe146-200 from Mike Stone tho(Thanks Mike). I thouhgt I would send it from O'hare to St'Louis and back. It came up just fine once I remembered to set the time to GMT. It landed about 10 feet short at Lambert, and crashed somewhere in the area of Shaumburg on the return trip. I've killed myself alot of times in FS, but this is the first time I've ever sent another "pilot" to his death!

Most downloads will say they are GMAX. I've used Mike Stone's RJ85, ERJ-145, L-1011, and A320-200. Mike is tops! Mine haven't crqashed.Project Open Sky has a beautiful collection of A330 (200 & 300) and B767 (200 & 300). They come with 3 different engine models, PW, GE, and RR. Be careful when adding to aircraft folder since the different engines models cannot be in the same folder. Make 3 different folders like B767-200ER-GE, B767-200ER-PW, and B767-200ER-RR. Then add textures with the same engines.YeoDesigns had a 737-200 out there as GMAX. There are some Boeing 717-200 models too. But they had a weird flight model(this one crashed) and have since been redone as AI-only. They behave now. There are some GA aircraft too, not many though.Yanick Falcon 50 is GMAX, and has a nice virtual cockpit. All of the above do not have a virtual cockpit, but are very nice to see as AI traffic. You want to populate, there's plenty to do that with.Rick

Hi 727 Fan:How did you get Mike Stone's L-1011 to fly properly (Delta). I have read all the post and what works for some don't work for others. I have tried different FS2k2 *.air files and tune different flight parameters along with removing flaps from the config files based on other posts but it still mis-behaves. Anything you can add that might help?

My L-1011's fly OK. I've read some posts of suicidal charges off the runway into the woods. The only peculiar thing they do is land awkward on my system.I've tried swapping 777 air files, but then the airplane wouldn't show-up!I dunno. I'm not an expert at that stuff yet. Sorry.Rick

I have no problems with Mike Stone's L1011's as AI. The trick is to make the L10 think it is a 737-400!. Replace the L10 airfile with that of the default 737-400, then change the following line in the aircraft.cfg as follows:sim=Boeing737-400Also in the aircraft.cfg file replace the following lines below. It took me many hours of experimenting to get this right. The only drawback I can see is the L10 now climbs quite steeply like the default 737 does.*START*[pitot_static]vertical_speed_time_constant = 1 //Increasing this value will cause a more instantaneous Ned. How in the world did you figure this one out? That's a long list. Did you change it all, or just a few entries?I'd like to do as you suggest, but......WHOA! intimidation factor!Rick

If you download and run Dave Parsons latest version of mdl repair his help file shows you how his programme identifies GMX aircraft.Dave Butler

Here is a little tip for ID-ing gWax ac. Look at the model file (*.mdl)size. With the exception of ac made with Aircraft Designer 2000, which there aren't many of, you should notice generally they are all different sizes. AF99 (FS98)and earlier ac mdl files all seem to be 70kb or 71680 bytes. FSDS created ac are ALL 1,029 kb or 1053696 bytes. GWax ac usually always are somewhere between the AF99 and FSDS file sizes due to makemdl.exe's optomization process. Have a look at the file sizes for default ac and you'll see what I mean. So if you ZIPDIVE an aircrafts file before you download it and look at the model file size and it is 71680 or 1053696 bytes, you can probably bet the farm on it NOT being gWax.

Theres another way to find out if they're GMAX. Go to the texture folder, and if there are tons of 'filename_t.bmp', and 'filename_l.bmp', then they're GMAX. If there are none, its not. Mike Stone's A320s need the 737's air file to make it land, POSKY's GMAX aircraft need alot of serious modifications to the aircraft.cfg and need replacement of the default air file into the Microsoft 777 air file.http://www.someplacesomewhere.com/uploaded/9vsve/sig.jpg
