Better is a subjective word, so I guess you are asking for people's opinions? I use AFCAD, but there are many people who prefer Add-a-Gate.AFCAD can add ATC to airports currently without it, but I hear that John is working on adding that to Addagate.Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Ok,Thanks Tom and yes thats what I was after was pro's and con's for both. So as I understand it then, they both pretty much accomplish the same thing then. Can either one distinguish cargo area's yet? I still have commercial craft parking at cargo areas and vice versa. I assume this is the problem you and Stamatis were discussing in an earlier thread whereas the mdl's are the suspected culprit. Thanks.Mike

There is currently no way to separate commercial and cargo aircraft, other than using an overlay for cargo gates only. I don't know of a fix coming along, either.Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Tom,Could you describe the problem in more detail? Does ground control not send cargo aircraft to cargo parking spots? Or is it some kind of tool problem with AFCAD?Thanks,Adam

I have not tested it personally, but Stamatis and others in earlier threads (links below) have stated that (using the SDK compiler) cargo aircraft (as designated in the SDK dat file) do not park only at parking spaces designated as CARGO, but use any spot large enough to support their size.http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/DCForumID13/47.htmlhttp://ftp.avsim.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboa...13&viewmode=allIs the sorting by parking type actually *supposed* to happen? There was some discussion about the Military parking spaces actually excluding the default commercial aircraft, but this was never followed up. Do you know of a "tag" in the MDL file that will sort aircraft according to GA, commercial (i.e. Gates), Cargo, and Military? If so, can we use a hex editor or other tool to set this?Thanks,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

my honest opinion: (I hope this does not sound tainted).Depending on what you would like to do with the program:As of right now:With AFCAD you are almost forced to run FS2K2 while editing airports as you can not load a background image in.This could cause indexing problems in my honest opinion as FS2K2 reindexes only if certain events take place.with Add A Gate you 'should not' run FS2K2 at the same time and can load a background image in so you can do edits without it running.Scaling is definately different between the two. and I honestly feel that scaling in Add A Gate is more accurate. (I'll explain this in detail if anyone would like to hear how I came to that conclusion).AFCAD allows you to make a non controlled airport controlled, a feature I will add to Add A Gate AFTER all the 'ground work' is accomplished. In addition you can change radio frequencies or add them if they do not exist with AFCAD.AFCAD (currently) has a limitation on the number of taxiway points you can place on an airport. Add A Gate does not.It is (currently) easier to "connect the dots" or taxiway points with AFCAD than it is with Add A Gate.Zooming is handled differently with Add A Gate than it is with AFCAD if AFCAD is NOT locked to FS2K2.AFCAD (currently) has sort routines. Add A Gate does not.am I missing anything?basically, depending on what your goal is. depending on the interface you would like to use. I currently use both, however, I only use AFCAD if I need to close a runway or make the airport controlled as I have not yet implemented those features into Add A Gate and my computer is not 'strong' enough to run AFCAD and FS2K2 at the same time (I barely get 20 FPS without any AI).(I really hope this sounds objective)-john

I believe I have found a scaling error in AFCAD that can cause aircraft to actually taxi off the (15 meter wide) taxiway. So far I've seen it only in the N-S direction. There appears to be a scaling error of about half a percent, as well as a small offset error. I accurately align the nodes with FS running. I posted about this a few days ago. I've sent an email to Lee with the details. I must say that, apart from this small error, I regard the AFCAD alignment method (with FS running) as very good indeed. It should be easy to correct this scaling error. Best regards, Chris
