AI Taxi Speed

Recommended Posts

Guest

I might have found something... I have, what I think, might be the call for the speed of the AI planes in taxi. I found the reference to it, mentioning it as KPH. Will keep it up to date, now I need to change and test. Will keep it up to date here.Dave

Ok, here is what I have, so far. The file mentioned before, AI_PLAYR.dll has NOTHING to do with the taxi speed. Upon opening the program, flying a complete pattern with ATC at various settings, FS2002 NEVER called for the file AI_PLAYR.dll. So I guess we could put that to bed, so, now the question is still there, which file is it. Now, for some unknown reason, when the sim loads, it is continually callng for the 737-400.gau file and the gps.gau. This happens BEFORE the sim is even fully loaded, while the splash screen is still there. As promised, I am trying to keep people up to date, so any help you could offer, even failures, would help, as I would then not repeat them.Dave

I was just think, but if you increase the idle power (a don't knowif is this) in Aircraft.cfg for a AI they don't move fast?Sorry if it's dumb, but is just a guess. Trying to help!

While it looks like the AI pilot is actually flying the plane when it's in the air (and hence the problems landing planes "not familier to him") I think another approach is used on the ground.I think the planes simply follows a track with a predefined speed. They do not really control the nose wheel, breaks, or throttle.

I too have been trying to alter the taxi speed, but am starting to believe it may be hard coded somewhere in the ATC routine. I do know that it is going to play havoc with all these 'real life AI traffic' downloads. The ATC will let things get backed up just so far and then you start to see planes getting vaporized.

Help me understand....if I am not mistaken there is one aircraft (a prop job?) that has much difficulty in maintaining a SLOW taxi speed? anyone remember which one?the reason I ask.... if one is way to fast and the rest are to slow one would deduce that it isn't one location that controls everything?having decided this is probably the case I've looked deeply into what MSFS2K2 does upon loading and see that for every AI aircraft loaded it reads the cfg file and air file (if 100 MD 83 AI aircraft are present it read the cfg file 100 times and the air file not nearly as often and as of yet I have yet to decide what that pattern is). Here is the strange part... in the air file it only reads 200 bytes. Now to decide where in the 200 bytes it specifies what speed the aircraft can go, what taxi speed it should maintain and what its maximum (+ or -) VS should be.so, can anyone remember which aircraft taxis way tooooo fast?-j

When you fly it the King Air taxies very fast, even at idle. However, as an AI aircraft it taxies as slowly as the rest. Thus, it can't be in the cfg or AIR file - it must be something hard coded in FS.Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

John:I have done some work also on taxi speeds and found the same thing with the cfg and air files. What got my attention was the same thing you saw with one of the AI aircraft. Its a GA aircraft and when I was watching the taxi spd at my local GA airport the airplane was alot faster on the ground. I didn't think much about it at that moment because I was adding and testing gates with Add-a-Gate. When I saw the post the other day on taxi speeds I went back and re-checked some of my work and I have found that the Cessna 182R RG could get to the hold point faster than any other airplane. I tested this on two different taxiways running side by side (each side of the runway simular to a drag race) so the 2 planes would not interfere with each other. Hope this helps

It is hardcoded unfortunately. I think the hardcoded value is 15 knots, although AI aircraft never seem to taxi that fast. If you're a hacker, then disassemble AI_PLAYR.DLL and look for 402e000000000000, which is the IEEE 64-bit floating point equivalent of 15.0.

What do you make of this:

I dunno. It kind of looks like code to handle the old dynamic scenery. I'm pretty sure those various traffic types match the ones decoded by Maurizio and others way back in the day of FS5STRUCT.TXT. The word "dynamic" is particularly telling. For those reasons, I doubt that code relates to the AI aircraft in FS2002.
