VOR/NDB Editing with AFCAD

Recommended Posts

Guest

I just tried to move the NRE VOR near Tokyo Narita. AFCAD does everything it's supposed to by appearance, i.e., when I input new coordinates and frequency, the graphics displayed changes to reflect the new location and frequency. Yet when I try to save the AFD (Japanafd.bgl) after I changed it, nothing happens. When I reopen this same VOR, it's back where it was. When I open the simulator, no update is accomplished which tells me that the AFD file wasn't changed.Doesn't AFCAD have the capability of deleting or editing VORs or NDBs? AFCAD works when dealing with airport Navaids such as localizers and such, but I've no luck trying to delete or edit this VOR.

I just found something curious in my AFDFILESSCENERY folder. A file called AFCADTemp.tmp. This file corresponds in size to japanafd.bgl. Why didn't AFCAD copy/rename this file to japanafd.bgl? Upon further examination, I disassembled this TMP file with BGLAnalyze. It not only shows Japan's data, but it reflects my VOR change as well.Lee Swordy, are you a member of this forum?UPDATE: When I renamed the TMP file to japanafd.bgl manually, it worked! When I again tried to edit the facility by changing its altitude, the AFD was updated directly. No TMP file appeared in the folder.I'll email Lee with this and see what he says.

I think he does all his support via email. And you do realize that AFCAD will not actually move the navaid - it only moves the position reported in Map View.Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Hi Tom,Yes I'm aware that updating the AFD doesn't change the actual VOR for the simulator. I have Airport & Scenery Designer for that task. I'm only reporting a possible bug with AFCAD.Why am I changing things at Narita? Because I just downloaded rjaajws2K214.zip from AVSIM, which reflects the new runway at RJAA which was put into service 18 April. The author used A&SD to update RJAA, but I think he needs to do more work with it.
