AI runway backtrack issues... Help!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Guest

I am trying to get this airport up and running with AFCAD. The problem I am having is that the 1.) AI will taxi to the normal node in the middle of the runway and then try to take off from there instead of taxiing down to the end of the runway and then turning around to takeoff. 2.) To get around this I put in a taxiway down the side of the runway to each end. However when the AI got to the runway they line up on the edge of the runway. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?? thanks.

Your diagram does not seem to have a taxiway parallel to the runway centreline- but this may be due to scale etc. I think you need to put a bit more of a turning circle at the end of the runway to help the a/c turn round and line up with the centreline more effectively.Hope this helpsM

Make sure you have a hold-short node before entering the runway.Placing a taxiway close to the runway centerline and/or having a "loop" of nodes at the runway end didn't work for me. The AI planes always managed to turn the wrong way and take off on the grass. (I have no idea why)So at ESGJ I moved the runway centerline a bit to the right (east). This works pretty well. The AI planes taxi down the "centerline", turn around, and takeoff when they've lined up with the runway heading. This way they won't taxi or take off on the grass. They will not however take off down the centerline (i.e. the actual centerline of the runway).MartinIt's a lot like life and that's what's appealing

My main problem besides the incorrect line up is that once the AI gets to the runway, they turn around to takeoff istead of taxiing to the end of the runway and then turning around for takeoff. Any ideas?? I'll try moving the runway link to the edge and see if it works for line up, that of course depends on whether or not I can get the AI to go down to the end of the runway and turn around for takeoff.I also have another question has anyone figured out how to override Amphibian AI from riding on top of water with thier wheels down? Thanks for your help!!

This way works fine to me. Take a look, you must create a paralell taxiway in rwy,and not move the centerline of rwy, this cause the plane to not taxy.Try this way and tell me!Regards,

As stated before, start by putting a hold short node on the taxiway before the runway. This may help.-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Tom, I had a hold short node prior to taxiway entry last night and it didn't work. But being that it was about 11pm, I woudln't be suprised if something else was hosed, I'll give it another shot tonite.Martoni, I will also give your method a try and let you know what happens. Thanks for the support guys!!!!!!!

I don't know the layout of your airport, but the parking and taxiway nodes are very close to the runway. Try moving them all farther away, and having only one taxiway into the runway node from each side, not two. To move things as a group just shift click all the nodes and parking spots on one side of the airport and shift drag them. And don't forget the hold short nodes... :)-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

I tried each and every one of the suggestions here last night and still no joy. What did end up working though was creating a taxiway on the grass parralel to the runway. However, when I first did that the AI would go all the way to the hold short get thier takeoff clearance and then taxi to the runway, but instead of lining up they would continue across the runway and line up for takeoff on the other side of the runway. So to fix that I moved the taxiway a lot farther back than normal. The airport I am using by the way is WA96 "Leisureland Airpark" just outside Seattle. What I think might be happening is that there are some other calculations that tell the AI how wide a runway should be, so eventhough you put a node and the runway line in a particular spot, the AI is interpreting a different runway width and is therefore lining up at the point it assumes to be the correct center of the runway. I noticed I don't have the same line up troubles at larger (wider runway) airports. I tried changing the runway width in the AFCAD runway properties, but I didn't notice a lot of difference.
