I give up!! AI aircraft cannot land at some airports

I converted WA96 to a live airport using AFCAD and it has been a trying session trying to get AI to land there. I have adjusted the airfield altitude up and down in the Airports database file to no avail. I have also fiddled around with the pattern altitude and the airport altitude in AFCAD and still no luck. The only way I was able to get the AI to land was by moving the center point of the runway farther away from the real runway, that way the AI would complete the base run farther out and would have enough time to descend to the runway, that ofcourse means landings in the other direction can't happen because the center position of the airport is off. Anyway, the bottom line is we need some method to adjust the AI altitude in the pattern. Maybe Lee can add that variable or it might be a MS issue. If anyone knows how to do this let me know please. I've noticed this too - at most airports, the AI aircraft land without any problems, but it the runway is short (but not too short...) they will "go around". When I first got FS2K2, I noticed that the jets would land a fair distance down the runway - they would pitch up a bit too much, and coast a bit before finally hitting the runway.Your comment about moving the centre point makes me wonder if making the runway longer in AFCAD will have the same effect.- Martin

anyone else looking into this?? Martin, I will try making the runway longer but I read in another post that that doesn't really help. But we'll see.

No it doesn't help. I made a runway 10,000ft and they still went right on by....there has to be another file somewhere that FS2002 reads for airport data.- josh

yeah... the runway I was looking at was already 5000ft, so when I changed it to 8000, nothing happened.I don't get this - the aircraft in question (ATR-42) land at other airports without a problem, yet at this one it just doesn't want to get down.- Martin

From what I have noticed, the all my AI will enter the pattern and fly the base leg and then turn final. It appears that the problem is the base leg is too close to the airport or the altitude on the base leg is too high for that distance from the airport. The result of this is once on final the aircraft is too high to land by the time it reaches the airport. As I mentioned in my first post, by moving the center position for the runway in the AFCAD properties file I was able to force the AI to turn base further out from the airport and therefore be low enough on final to land. the problem with that is AI coming in the opposite direction overshoot the airport because the center line is so far off. Any clues Tom Gibson??

Not many. Where is the refpoint of the airport? Is it centered within the runways? But it's the aircraft that are just about to touch down, when they decide to go around that are bugging me. The approach, hesitate at about 50ft, and then decend a bit more before deciding to go around. The gear retract, and the power up, but sometime they are low enough and they have enough momentum that they hit the ground anyway.These are aircraft that are landing fine at other airports. All airports are standard, so it's not that. Some aircraft are able to land with no problems, others have lots of problems. It's just so inconsistant that I am unable to determine a "rule of thumb". Often you can point to a single factor like the runway length, or elevation, but not this time. I'll probably just give up on THIS plan landing at THIS airport.- Martin

I am having the same problem too. The airport that I have the problem with is mktp.The strange thing is the aircraft will land on when 32 is the active but when the wind changes, favouring 14 they all go around.When I first activated the airport and traffic they would not land at all but after adjusting the treshold node at either end of the runway they started landing at the 32 end but so far no luck with 14. It could be because there is high terrain on the 14 approach end.It would me great if someone could find a way to solve this.

I do believe that terrain may have something to do with it.
