Overlay Not There

Recommended Posts

Guest N247BK

This is an amazing situation I am in:I created an overlaid airport at KRIC to send commercial traffic to the existing airport, and general aviation to the "other side".I think I followed the instruction to the letter (I used the AFCAD "HELP").ATC is vectoring me, when I fly over to the "new" layered airport, to the general aviation side, and I have heard ATC send commercial traffic (and I have seen the AI commercial traffic) to the correct side.I was baffled, however, that I was seeing no general AI aircraft parked at the airport at all, nor landing & taking off.I went back into AFCAD, and tried to open the "new" (general aviation) side, and the diagram was not there. I was able to select it (I called it RIC2) from the search list in AFCAD. But.... NOT THERE.I had saved the exported text file .... so I imported it, and there was the airport layout, just as was designed. I then saved it again; AFCAD asked if I wanted to overwrite the old one ... I said YES, and thought I would be happy.I tried to open it again in AFCAD ... used the search function to find it ... and it was NOT THERE .... a grown man is about to break down in tears. Please help.

Each time you save a major change in AFCAD, you need to restart FS and let it re-index it's files. Then AFCAD will be able to find your airport again.Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

I'm just going to put my two cents in :)Any time you make any change with AFCAD that either ADDS to or DELETES from ANY airport, as soon as you hit the SAVE button.Close AFCADClose FS2K2Open FS2K2Open AFCADfailure to do so will ruin indexes written in FS2K2 making it inoperative.-j

Thanks John !Perhaps I have not read the instruction as closely as I thought.I have been using AFCAD without FS2K2 open at all .... should I have FS open while I use it?Additionally, I have tried EVERYTHING, even adding another tower with all new frequencies at my "new" side of KRIC. But nothing has brought GA traffic to that side yet ....Thanks for the help .... sincerely ... !

Other than the information I just gave about AFCAD, I'm not certain how to use it. (and don't plan on learning either). As long as it's not 'dummy proof' and the 'ability exist' for me to mess up the indexes so badly that I'd have to start all over again I would further suggest no one else use it.Sorry, if this offends anyone.-j

I seem to be having a fair amount of success with AFCAD, as I have edited a few airports without problem.I seem to be having trouble with this, my first overlay. And even with this, the only problem i seem to be having is with my GA Traffic(I created the routes using TTools) use my "new" airport. My commercial traffic is definitely using the other side ... and ATC is vectoring me to the correct runway when I'm in my GA aircraft.Last night, I tried removing the tower, from the original KRIC, which was inadvertently left when I did the split. Then, after that did not solve the problem, I added a new tower, new frequency .... to no avail.I'd bet that I am missing a very simple ingredient (would not be the first time for me .... ).I'm willing to hang in there with AFCAD ... heck, if I screw it all up, I'll start over ....

Do you mean that your GA aircraft never appear at the airport? Do they depart the originating airport?-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Ha,I did not see this thread before.I think you are not recompiling your traffic.bgl file after you edited your AFD info. You are still using your old traffic.bgl file. You will have new airport in the list but AI would not use that airport since your new airport is not listed in the traffic.Hope that helps.Regards,Danzian"Keep the dirty side down."
