Tom Gibson - One More Q

Tom,Thanks ... you have finally made me understand how TTools routes work. Now, because I may have screwed my airport up on my first pass with AFCAD, do you think I should just use my back-up of the ".bgl" for KRIC, and do the layering all again? I kept a back-up of my SCENERY folder from a month ago when I had a planned system upgrade underway. Thanks ...

Not really knowing how much work the original overlay was, I'm not sure. If you think you did actually mess up the airport, then yes, start fresh and do it again. Copy the backup (ends in ORIGINAL) over the current bgl file (both in the FS2002/Scenedb/AFDFiles folder). Make sure to restart FS to reindex things, and then start again.Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Tom,I started over, and did everything to the letter.I then divided the traffic 50/50 between the old and new airport sides. I also went in and fixed the flight plans file, to allow ample time for round-trips between RIC2 and other airports. After the entire process was completed, I started FS2K2, and set myself up for a short flight over to my new side of KRIC (RIC2).ATC cleared me to the correct sid eof my new layer, and I heard them clear a United Express in to other active, on the other side.A huge smile came on my face, as I was certain I would see lots of planes parked at RICs ..... then ..... nothing.I have flight set up to come from Canada, Denver, etc., so I'm sure distances are not a problem.I just wonder if I am missing something with the Tower and frequency for ATC on the RIC2 side. I know the AFCAD instructions say no one will come and go if there is no Tower and Frequency. But I fugured the one on the KRIC side would suffice.

Hi Bob,Would suggest that you would need some freqs for the aircraft to speak too as I believe the layers are treated as if they were separate airfields. You should be able to use the RIC ones and then it will seem that they are "as one"Rgds Ron

Ron is correct, you must have Tower frequencies in both overlays, but the frequency should be the same. Since ATC cleared you to the RIC2 side of the airport and you contacted the tower just fine, that seems to be OK.I assume it still has to do with your flights to RIC2 (post some here) or the gates you've put there. They have to be big enough for the planes to fit or there will be nothing there. When you landed at RIC2, did you get permission to park at Parking, and did you get a Progressive Taxi purple line?-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Hello again Tom,Sorry, had to go to my son's violin recital tonight.I just check my "new" airport, and I kept the original Tower with freq.I also flew over from KFCI, and was vectored again to the "new" side runway. After landing, progressive taxi sent me to the "old" side (Tom, once again ... you're on to something). Whew .... now I'm at a loss ... what does that mean ... should I have removed all the taxiways from the "old" side when I was creating the new?I believe you are within minutes of getting me over this "hump".

No, you don't need to eliminate the taxiways. You need to move the reference points of the overlay. When you land and contact ground, you will contact the facility with the closest ref point. If they are the same, FS will just choose one (the same one all the time). Search for the word Getting on this forum, look for the thread "Getting Overlay Arrivals to Park Correctly", and read the whole thread for all the details.Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

The only thing obvious I notice is that if you have the ATC slider (in Options/Settings/ATC) set lower than 74% only one flight plan will actually run. Make sure you have the ATC slider set to 100% if you want all those flights to show up.-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___
