Adjusting Runway Lengths with AFCAD to Get Crosswind Ru

Recommended Posts

Guest

I recently read a post where somebody had discovered that at an airport in Turkey (Esenboga, I think) both runways were exactly the same length, and BOTH runways were used. The runways were not parallel... i.e.- they were in an "X".This person discovered that when the winds were favorable to a particular runway, then that runway would be used.I took this logic, and I have been adjusting the length of the crosswind runway at some airports to be identical to the longest runway. It does actually work: ATC will assign the crosswind runway when the wind gets high enough. Now, take KMIE as an example. I have increased the length of runway 2/20 from 4998 to 6500. Is doing this going to cause me problems? I've tested just a little, and things seem okay, but I'd hate to go around changing all the airports just to learn that I've made a big mistake. My biggest concern was that the AI aircraft would touchdown before the threshold, but they don't seem to.Comments? Thanks,James
