ATC not assigning a taxiway

Recommended Posts

Guest

I have created parking spots at an airport using AFCAD and connected them directly to a taxiway. When I contact ground for taxi instructions they just assign me to the runway without the "via taxiway xx". What am I missing? I double checked and the nodes are connected to the taxiway and to the parking spots and the taxiway is continuous - no breaks. Can anyone offer a suggestion?Sorry if this is repetitious but I searched the forum and couldn't find a similar question. Probably just didn't search the right terms. Thanks in advance for any assistance.ERIC PAGE

Did you name your taxiways something other than Blank?-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

I connected them to an existing taxiway, in this case D. Does there need to be an intermediate node between the parking space and the taxiway? Mine are linked directly from the parking space to a node on the taxiway.ERIC PAGE

Make sure your parking spaces are connected to the taxiway. Click on the node & move it alittle to see if it is connected. I downloaded an AFCAD file for KSTL & discovered that most of the parking spaces weren't connected. The parking connector node was over the taxiway line, but not connected. When I moved the node it moved off the taxiway. So I had to reconnect about 95% of the parking spots so it would work.John

No, connecting directly to the taxiway is OK. Check your links to the taxiway, and make sure they are actually connected, as described by the other poster. BTW, you cannot drag a node over a taxiway and have it connect (AFAIK) - it must be created by dragging the mouse over to the taxiway and releasing.Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

OK I think I figured it out. John, you were right on. It was my KSTL gates you downloaded that I was trying to fix. What I didn't catch was that while the parking connectors appeared to be connected to the taxiway visually, they weren't physically connected (i.e., the taxiway didn't move when moving the node). I went back and deleted all the connectors and restarted. What I did notice is that if you draw the connector from the parking spot to the taxiway the connection isn't made to the taxiway. If you draw from the taxiway to the parking spot the connection is made just fine. Thanks for your help guys.ERIC PAGE

This isn't true for me. However, I do have to let go of the mouse when it is *exactly* over the taxiway to have AFCAD make the connection.Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://members.aol.com/tgfltsim/index.htmlAlcoHauler Locomotive Page: http://members.aol.com/alcohauler/home/alcohaul.htmlFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Yea, if you're off the line alittle it won't connect. I've had that happen when connecting more than 1 parking space to 1 node. Just alittle off & then 2 nodes. If you zoom in it's more accurate.John
