AI TRAFFIC TAKEOFF DELAYS!!!

Recommended Posts

Guest

Hi, maybe someone has better experiences with AI...I've downloaded and installed the WORLD TRAFFIC AI file and it works very well but it seems to exist a problem in FS2002:all of the world traffic flights start at GMT time. And when I start a flight for example at Frankfurt (EDDF) at 6:00 AM GMT there's no aircraft on the taxiway to the runway or waiting for T/O clearance at the runway. All the flights from 5:00 GMT have not departured - all of them want to get their clearance and then a huge snake of aircraft is taxiing to the rwy...Is that a problem in FS2002? It's really a problem to get your own clearance because of this huge amount of requests...Can anyone help?Chris

Two problems1. Too many aircraft deaprting with in 2-3 minutes of each other2. FS ATC bug I believe it should be able to handle up to 4 runways at a time IMHO3. For cases like this you have two options A. taxi out ahead of the other trafficB. Use a different runwayJohn

Chris,When you first start a situation in FS all the AI aircraft are reset. Their positions are calculated dependant on the (GMT) time, their departure and arrival airport and their flight level. However, for those aircraft that are determined to be on the ground they are simply placed at a gate. It does not try to guess how far out to the runway they are and put them there. To cater for those flights that would be about to take off when you first show up, FS starts all the flights that were to depart 15 minutes before the current time. i.e. you show up at 1:15pm and all the flights scheduled to depart from 1pm to 1:15pm will all become active at once.In a major airport like Frankfurt, in those 15 minutes many many flights will leave, only now they are all trying at once. I would recommend you set your position, then go and make a coffee, have a biscuit, get the weather, upload your fuel, check your flight plan, recheck your flight plan, then deparat. Depending on the airport involved this process can take between 5 mins to 30mins (my Heathrow is notoriously bad for that). This behaviour is normal and designed for, Lee Swordy mentions it in the Ttools documentation. If you're desperate to get your clearance in quick then I recommend you turn your AI slider down a bit to turn down the number of flights.Hope this helps,IanP.S. I've copied this to your duplicate question in the General FS forum.

Is the ATC overload mentioned earlier in this thread the reason why some aircraft disappear from their stand and reappear without identifiable reason about 15 miles from the point of origin?

I expect (I don't know) that if an aircraft can't get clearance from it's stand before a certain number of minutes after its official departure time then the whole departure sequence is scrapped and the plane disappears. However, the flight isn't lost and the AI engine will recalculate the position of the flight next time it's calculating who's where in what sector. At which point the flight will "pop up" on its way. This is pure speculation on my part, backed up with common sense and a little bit of experience (in both FS AI and general programming).Take care,Ian
