My Pilot's Voice disappeared--no verbal answers to ATC

Recommended Posts

Guest

When I contact ATC, my pilot voice is not spoken. But ATC responds as if my message has gotten through just fine. My own messages don't even show up on screen as scrolling text. But all the ATC message do appear and are verbally spoken just as if my voice and messages have indeed been received just fine. This has just happed in the last couple of days and I have not been able to figure out what is going on.Any ideas for a fix???Happy Flying!Bill MolonyAtlanta GA USAUnder the 27L Approach to KATL--the busiest airport in the world :)

Bill,Make sure you have not lost one of the Audio Codec's. With WinXP there should be:IMAADP32.ACMMSADP32.ACMMicrosoftPCM ConverterWin98:Microsoft IMA ADPCM CODECMicrosoft ADPCM CODECMicrosoft PCM ConverterRetrieve them under Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Windows Tab.

Hi Bill,Yep, I guess it is a "Bill" thing!!! :)Thanks for your response!I found these: IMAADP32.ACM Found In ...System32 MSADP32.ACM Found In ...System32I also looked in Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices Properties/Audio Codecs Properties and found a list of 11 Audio Compression Codecs including Microsoft PCM Converter that were installed and apparently working correctly. The Audio Test of my "Sam" voice also works perfectly.I also did what you suggested about Control Panel/Add Remove Programs/Windows Tab but nothing there seemed to match up with the problems I am having.I am running WinXP Pro. Just installed WinXP a couple of weeks ago. I was using Win2000 Pro before then but I did a clean install of XP--totally reformatting my drive to NTFS.Then I did a complete clean install of FS2K2 and made sure that worked correctly. Then I copied my entire old FS2K2 folders from backups overwriting the new FS2K2 installation so that I would have it all back like it was.I THINK my own pilot's voice was present since then but I am not absolutely certain of that so it is POSSIBLE that it was lost during that intallation.Any more ideas???Happy Flying!Bill MolonyAtlanta GA USAUnder the 27L Approach to KATL--the busiest airport in the world :)

Try selecting a different voice and see if it works, then set it back to the original if it does work. It is under settings, Air Traffic Control menu. Do you hear any other chatter for AI aircraft if you have tower and ground selected on your radios?

BINGO!!! That was it! Fixed!Checked ATC Settings and sure enough there was NO pilot voice selected! How that happened is the question??? I certainly did not set it that way myself. I bet that is a setting that is kept in the Registry. And since I fresh installed FS2K2, there was no voice selected--not even a default voice. But as soon as a selected a voice, that fixed it.Thanks Bill!!!Happy Flying!Bill MolonyAtlanta GA USAUnder the 27L Approach to KATL--the busiest airport in the world :)
