If I don't get this fixed... planes will be falling from the sky

I made a new afcad file for an airport. It was initially an uncontrolled airport, but I wanted traffic. Got the traffic working great and the AFCAD done. The only issue I have now is the traffic will not land. They only overshoot the runway. I've checked for errors in the AFCAD file, but find none... any ideas? Thanks

Is the runway long enough? The runway in the AFCAD file is what's used to determine length, not the runway in the scenery. Also, do you have Tower and Ground frequencies assigned? On the other hand, you may be all right but you're not waiting long enough. When you start (or restart) the sim, aircraft are created in mid-air at their cruising altitude. If they are close to the airport but still at 30,000 feet, they will likely miss their approaches because they're too high and going too fast. After a while, the aircraft that have had time to descend and decelarate properly will land.Do you have proper taxiways, and in particular black runway taxiways "named" with the appropriate runway designators? I'm not clear on why this is necessary, but it is. You may have a problem where an aircraft is cleared for takeoff but can't do so because the taxiways are wrong. Once an aircraft is cleared, another can't land until the first one is gone.

I'm just testing out another AFCAD modification. I've double checked the landing distance as you stated and there are ground/tower freqs. I believe all it may be turning out to be is the time of day that i'm setting the sim to. I'm trying a different time of day to see what happens. Thanks for the info! :-)

Hi there:time of day seems to be a strange reason though it might be that there's more AI in the skies at specific times during the day which might influence your target AI.More likely, you're dealing with an issue of the terrain avoidance feauture. Have a look at this thread, particularly the "essays" by Hugo and myself further down ;-)http://forums.avsim.com/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=13670&page=2Cheers, Holger

Hi Another thing that's worth trying is to change IFR flights to VFR & lower the flight height if possible. Also closeing a runway where terrain is a issueCheers Baldrick

Or the opposite - change the VFR flights to IFR.Also, if there is a hill in the approach they won't land well at all. See the terrain avoidance post above.Hope this helps,
