Using AI aircraft with default flight plans

Recommended Posts

Guest macman4

Maybe this is a stupid ?. I havn't messed with AI traffic before, just started reading about it the last few days. But is there a way to get rid of the stock aircraft ie: Land mark, Orbit.... .Then use any AI aircraft that I may download, but use the same default flight plans that FS2004 uses. I want to see aircraft like Northwest or Delta, not the fake ones in FS2004. Was that a stupid question? Thanks in advanceBob

No, not stupid at all. There are two ways to do this - the editing way and the AITM way.First the editing way:Let's use the default 737 as an example.1. Open the 737 folder inside the FS AIRCRAFT folder.2. Double click the aircraft.cfg file, to open it for editing.3. Take a look at the first section, [fltsim.0]. You will see a title= line, with a name for the first 737 livery (there are 2 more listed below). That is the name that is used by FS to load the plane as AI for a given flight plan. What we will do now is give that name to a different plane, thus using it instead for those AI flights.4. Hightlight this name, and choose Edit/Copy.5. Now click at the end of the name, and add the letters NAI (for No AI). This will eliminate this plane from the default AI. Save the file.6. Now go to the plane's folder you want to use for AI. Double click the aircraft.cfg file to open it.7. Right after the phrase title=, place a space and two slashes ( //) in front of this plane's name. Move the cursor to just before the space you just created. Now choose Edit/Paste. You have now changed this plane to the same name as the 737 livery #1. It will now be used for default AI instead (the // means that FS will ignore everything past this point). Save the file.8. Repeat this process for each default aircraft (or paint scheme) that you want to swap with another plane. The AITM way:1. Download and install AI Traffic Mover 2(http://www.molitor-home.de/fs/aitm/) Make sure to set it for FS2002 or FS2004.2. Download and install TTools 2.02 (available here - search for Lee Swordy) into a ttools subfolder of your AITM folder.2. Start the program, and Decompile the default traffic file (something like traffic3463954856.bgl) into your AITM folder.3. File/Open the resulting Flight Plan file (something like flightplans3463954856.txt).4. Choose Tools/Flightplan Aircraft Editor.5. In the top window, select a default plane you want to swap for another plane.6. In the middle window, select the plane you want to replace it with.7. Press the Substitute button.8. Repeat 5-7 with each default plane you want to swap.9. Press OK.10. Now File/Save the file, and then File/Compile the file.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Good advice, Tom, but I believe you left out a step:>>>The AITM way:1. In the top window, select a default plane you want to swap for another plane.<<<5A. In the bottom window, find an aircraft that you want to use to replace the default one (for example, an AI Aardvark 737 variant)5B. Highlight that aircraft and click on "Add" button.5C. Not sure this is required, but highlight the aircraft you just added in the top window, and click the "speed" button and edit it so that it matches the default aircraft you are replacing.>>>6. In the middle window, select the plane you want to replace it with.<<<(note: that is, the one you just added in step 5B. It won't show up in the middle window until you add it.)>>>7. Press the Substitute button.8. Repeat 5-7 with each default plane you want to swap.9. Press OK.10. Now File/Save the file, and then File/Compile the file.<<
