EGCC Problem

Recommended Posts

Guest mcleadbeater

HiI have not started playing with AFCAD2 in earnest yet since I have just bought a new computer and I'm trying to get FS9 up to date on it - reinstalling everything etc, but I have noticed the following:At Manchester, EGCC, I have a the 'Stock' BGL and a 'MOD' BGL installed. The latter is a higher 'layer' than the former. The latter has runways 24L and 6R noted as being closed for landing and takeoff respectively. However, when viewing traffic I see landings taking place on 24L. The other runway, BTW, is open for all movemements. Can anyone explain why this might be case? Thanks in advance.M

It seems to work in FS9 only when you do the same thing to both ends - very erratic results trying to close landings on one end and takeoffs on the other. And, closings of any sort will only work for parallel runways.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Tom,"very erratic results trying to close landings on one end and takeoffs on the other."What if one closes landings on one end and does nothing to the other end? Will it work then?"And, closings of any sort will only work for parallel runways."So any editing/intervention done to single, non-parallel runways will be disregarded?Speaking of this, has anyone determined the rules under which FS ATC chooses the active runway in FS2004?Stamatis

Any closing that is not the same on both ends will be erratic - it will work at some airports, not at others. I do not know why.If the runway does not have another runway with a heading within 5 degrees or so, if FS decides that this runway is the active one it will ignore any closings. My current hypothesis of FS runway choice:1. Determine direction of surface wind.2. Check the aircraft in the flight plan; jets use longer runways than piston aircraft for example (may be other criteria??). Find the minimum runway length (and width?) that will accomodate the traffic.3. Select an acceptable runway that is closest to the wind direction.4. If there is more than one runway that is closest to the wind direction (i.e. parallel runways), check if there are any closing entries.5. Close those runways as long as there is one runway for landings and one for takeoffs. Ignore otherwise.#5 may not work if there are different closings for each end of the runway.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___
