Crosswind Runways Problem with AFCAD

Recommended Posts

Guest crispy136

HiI have recently modified an AFCAD file for YBBN to allow for crosswind runways as per the PAI instructions.YBBN has 01/19 and 14/32.Now ai aircraft land on both runways. However the problem is that ai aircraft now ignore wind direction and always use runway 19 for takeoffs. I reloaded the same AFCAD file without the crosswind modification and they use the correct runways for departure based on wind direction. So it seems adding the crosswind modifation has changed the use of the active runway.Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks

No - 90 degree crosswinds and tailwinds are part of what you have to accept to get more runways open. With the crosswind runway technique you make FS think the runways are parallel to each other.I assume you tied Rwy 1 to Rwy 14. So only Rwys 1 & 14 can be used at the same time and only Rwys 19 & 32 can be used as a pair.FS will think a nice 30 kt wind from 320 is just perfect for at takeoff on Rwy 19. Rwy 14/32 will control runway usage based on wind direction. Also because 14/32 is less than 7,000 ft, you will not see any jets use that runway for takeoff. That is a qualifier when more than one runway is available in FS for that engine type.I'd have to see the AFCAD to make any suggestions.

Thanks for the info. That makes more sense now.I think I tied 01 to 14 as my virtual runways spanned the difference between those two. However the more logical combination of runways is 01 & 32 and 19 & 14. Will have to try a few combinations to get it right. You say that runway 14/32 will control the runway direction. Is that becuase it is the last listed in the runways list?Chris

YesBut moving the other runway to last on the list will messup the relationship between the approaches, navaids and ILS on the other runway.
