Generic Scenery...

Recommended Posts

Before I embark on what could be a long and time consuming project (for which I have little time!!) does anyone know of any replacement generic textures for Fly!2k other than ground control by HITW ??Now, I like the HITW textures better than Fly! defaults, but I still find them a bit too 'bright' and too 'artificial'.Ideally I would use Fly!II textures, but if possible would like to avoid the work!!RegardsChris Ehttp://website.lineone.net/~flightsimukAvoid AGP texturing = Better Performance ;)

Chris,The only generic texture replacements that I know of are with Ground Control.Personally, I found Terrascene to be the best way to go. I'm not saying Terrascene the whole world - you'd need a supercomputer and a load of time. Instead, Terrascene the areas you fly in and out of and leave the transit areas Ground Control. If you want an area for VFR, then terrascene the VFR corridor. There are loads of finished Terrascene and other types of sceneries available for the U.S. and some other areas of the world here in the library. On your own, Terrascene will automatically extract and convert Fly!II textures for generating new scenery areas in Fly!2K. Let it crank while you sleep and you can have a new area to fly in the morning. :-)

Thanks Randall,As I wish to develop scenery for VFR use in the UK, I may be limited to available satellite photography, but Fly!II textures are what appeal to me the most.Having said that, I did a few experiements last night by modifying the Ground Control textures (all those in WTILES.EPD) by reducing the colour saturation a bit (but noticable) and then re-creating a new EPD based upon the mods.Initial results are promising.Does anyone know if the Fly!II textures use the same names as those within WTILES.EPD on Fly!2k ? (I haven't looked yet).ThanksChris Ehttp://website.lineone.net/~flightsimukAvoid AGP texturing = Better Performance ;)

add-on that never saw the light of day. We started work on it around the end of 2000. Creating a new set of generic textures for Fly! is quite a chore because of all the transition textures that have to be created by hand, and this is just one of a few aborted projects that never fully left the ground.:-abductAnyway, enjoy. Thanks Jak,If anyone was going to know answers, then it is obviously going to be you.>>The Fly!II textures use an entirely different system than the Fly!Fly!2K textures. I can't recall off-hand as it's been a while but I thought I'd at least chime in on that point<http://website.lineone.net/~flightsimukAvoid AGP texturing = Better Performance ;)
