Regarding Elrond's chopped and locked-up post...

"Elrond Sorry but the content of the message and the links are outside the limits for AVSIM. On top of which the link is to a sales site for the product."Well I found the post in question earlier and was meaning to reply but time got the best of me. Now I see that it's been removed but I did want to thank Elrond for the kind words. Thank you Elrond. :)Ahhh well. I guess that means I the "flight attendant" version we were working on will have to be put on hiatus, lol. :-lolJust so it's clear, I do respect the moderator's decisions to remove posts, but I wanted to thank Elrond for the nice comments. :)Jak Fearonhow in the world?http://www.howintheworld.comhttp://www.howintheworld.com/hitw-images-misc/banner.jpg - Not a link to a sales site, but rather a link to a site where you can find some really nice stuff for Fly! and Train Sim. Well, one of our Train Sim programs is for sale, but, well, uhm... there's some pretty cool free Fly! stuff there for ya. ;)

Hi Robert,Wow... That was completely unexpected. With all respect, since when is a personal post about some software (commercial or no) outside the bounds of AVSIM's policies? I fully understand the whole commercial debate that happened last week, but I have nothing to do with How in the world? or the company that made this product. As I remember last week, it was explicitly stated that personal posts talking about or recommending commercial software were fully acceptable and encouraged (which of course makes complete sense)... Only commercial developers were banned from advertising their wares on the public AVSIM forums. Am I mistaken? While I agree the software wasn't Fly! related directly, it was still an appropriate place to post the message because Jak *is* Fly! to a large extent (absolutely no disrespect or lessening of all the wonderful devs and users here of course! and Rich in particular!). I have no doubt many other Fly! friends and "old-timers" would be extremely interested in knowing what Jak is doing these days and what software he is working on - which I personally recommend.Any help understanding the posts pull would be appreciated Robert.:edit:Whoa! And now its gone from the General forum as well! That makes absolutely NO sense to me whatsoever... Thats what that forum is all about - general topics. Or so I thought!:end edit:(and Jak: no thanks necessary! It was my pleasure to let Fly!ers know what you're up to these days and highly recommend your new software... It IS excellent.)Thanks,http://members.rogers.com/eelvish/elrondlogo.gifhttp://members.rogers.com/eelvish/flyurl.gif

Elrond, thanks again. As I stated, I respect AVSIM's decision to remove the post from this Fly! related forum, but I did notice ealier the same post in the General Forum, and now that has been deleted altogether.I'm confused. Goat-Spiders, the Pledge of Allegience, terrorism, John Travolta, killer asteroids, Never Winter Nights, Morrowind, Photoshop, video cards, Visual Basic, Soccer, video recording, computer problems, etc. etc. are all OK but a post about some pretty girls in 3D is removed. It might be surprising news, but so far the majority of purchases of the product in question have been made by Flight Sim andor Train Sim users. You should see the email we've been getting back thanking us for doing something they consider so cool.Hmmmm.Jak Fearonhow in the world?http://www.howintheworld.comhttp://www.howintheworld.com/hitw-images-misc/banner.jpg

I too respect AVSIM (and Robert of course) for their policies. But I think some confusion over the Commercial policies are happening here. In the Commercial thread last week, Francois specifically said:"Currently the rule (for ALL forums) is that we do not allow commercial authors/publishers or people directly connected to such individuals and/or companies to post announcements, news or ads about their products. With or without screenshots.Anybody outside that group, i.e. readers of AVSIM, may post messages about and screenshots of products as long as they have gotten these legally (and are not obviously playing 'strawman' for the commercial groups). This means that nothing stands in the way of enthusiastic (or not) reports of users of products and nothing stops our readers from discussing products."The link is here:http://ftp.avsim.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboa...m=DCForumID8#12Again, I fully respect AVSIM and the staff. But this particular instance must be a mistake.Take care,http://members.rogers.com/eelvish/elrondlogo.gifhttp://members.rogers.com/eelvish/flyurl.gif

I know, configure a version for the dancing freeware lady in a Boeing 747 and then it will relate to simming... :-lol :-lolI do understand if it was removed because it had to do with the dancing girl. Since it linked to another version unsuitable for minors, I could see that as appropriate. ;-)Regards,Joe :-wave.http://home.attbi.com/~jranos/mysig.jpg http://avsim.com/hangar/air/bfu/logo70.gif

Hi Joe,Well, if it had anything to do with the picture of the dancing 3D girl, its most assuredly a mistake. She is fully clothed and completely G-Rated software (well, maybe PG since she winks while she dances :-)). There are scantier clad women posted in these threads every single day here at AVSIM: flight sim related to boot (not to mention the F1 2002 ladies! Wow, they're lookers if you haven't seen the sim yet).Greta's only skin showing is her arms! You could be right about my linking to the strip version however. If it was that link that caused the problem, I'd be happy to repost my thoughts on Jaks G-Rated 3D Kittens without such a link - and appologize if that was the problem. Was that the problem Robert?Take care,http://members.rogers.com/eelvish/elrondlogo.gifhttp://members.rogers.com/eelvish/flyurl.gif

Hi Schofi,I truly don't think that must have been the reason for the posts pull. At least, I can't imagine a picture of a human being (rendered at that) being the reason. I think it somehow had to do with the Commercial posting ban as implimented (and fought over) a few weeks ago in the FS forum. My post was from an end-user of the commercial software though, so I think it was just a misunderstanding. I think.I wish someone at AVSIM would reply back to either my private emails or in this thread to clarify and fix this though as its frustrating me to no end.(And yes: thats a line from Apocalypse that I too found ironic!)Take care,http://members.rogers.com/eelvish/elrondlogo.gifhttp://members.rogers.com/eelvish/flyurl.gif

Just to keep this subject going & for "forum fill",......... do the moves of the dancer actually go with different MP3 music selections, or are the moves the same? And yes............ I downloaded this before the post was pulled. My 17 year old daughter who has danced for over half her life (drill teams, etc.) was interested, as well as my interest in the computer animation....L.Adamson

Elrond,I wasn't going to weigh in here, because I didn't want to proselytize, but after a little thought about the issue, it occurred to me that a good analogy might be this:Have you ever heard a conversation about the merits of a particular hundred dollar hamburger joint on Unicom? As a guy just trying to get into the pattern, that kind of thing is hard to deal with, because on the one hand, you want to be polite, but on the other hand, you also know that while the conversation is essentially harmless, it doesn't belong where it is. You mash the button quick during a break, hoping you don't get stepped on, and say, "Uh, Meadowlark traffic, Cessna 25391, wanted to call the 45 for downwind, but we're rolling out on final now..."Please just let it go, and let's get back to flying.

Hi Kurt,If it was just this Fly! based post I'd have had no problem with it being removed as I do understand it was "off topic" in a way.But it was also removed from the General forum which is wholly unacceptable to me - it paints my post in some sort of false light. Since Jak started this thread in response to its removal, it was the obvious place for me to respond to as well. Don't forget that Robert specifically said: if you have any questions... And that was in THIS forum. I do, and I haven't heard anything back.I've also responded offline privately through email. Same thing: no response. But I respect your point and guess you are right. Its time to move this topic to another forum such as the General forum. I'll do that in about an hour after dinner.Take care,http://members.rogers.com/eelvish/elrondlogo.gifhttp://members.rogers.com/eelvish/flyurl.gif
