Fly! New York

Recommended Posts

Guest nycflyer

I have uploaded all of the revised NY scenery. There is now one shared pod containing just shared models. All the scenery files and location specific models are defined by scf coverage, in neat folders for your scenery folder.I thinned all of it out a bit, utilized more distance hiding, and reduced the texture memory needed for Ozzie Dave's city clusters. The scenery is adjusted to line up (generally) with terrascened areas, so if you have generic ground textures things may look a little astray. Maybe you won't even notice.Vin Scimone created some fantastic bridges for New York City. Thanks.More extraneous models and non night models are mostly all "Complex" now. This means "Normal" detail is more efficient for fps. Use "Normal" scenery detail at night. I will also be uploading a sparser version of NYC in a few days to further improve fps around New York City. The New York GA airports scenery includes dex files for adding Lincoln Park, NJ (N07). You will need to terrascene the airport after as well. Actually, I would recommend redoing the whole 203159 tile at least. It looks so much better. There's also a great new control tower model at JFK that Vin had sitting around.Remove ALL my previous scenery you may have (except Boston). You need:1. NY Metro SHARED_v1.podhttp://ftp.avsim.com/library/sendfile.php?DownloadID=198342. A Terramodels podhttp://ftp.avsim.com/library/sendfile.php?DownloadID=131773. Hey scott, little problem here, I got exactly the same error as when I wanted to fly from Boston. I'm missing a file called tmground.tif. I guess it comes from a different airport that I don't have. Could you help me out?cheers

Scott,After installing all your files, I bomb out of Fly2! with a "Too Many (polygon) Vertices" message when I'm over the heart of the city. Is there a setting I can use to get me by this? Stan V.

Stan, I haven't seen that at all. What are your scenery settings, hardware, and are you sure you don't have any other NY scenery in there.-----------------------Scott CannizzaroPPASEL-KTEB

Scott,Thanks for all your tireless work. Much appreciated. However, in my case I can not yet see the results because I am getting a CTD over a missing model: DDXR0760.SMF. I found reference to this model in the LONGISLAND.S11 file within your Long Island V2 pod but no model of that name was found in this pod or in your shared metro pod.Any ideas?Alan

Alan, Chris Catalano made me aware of that problem yesterday. I just checked AVSIM and the the correct file is not the one currently in the library. I will have to look into this later. If you have the NY METRO GA Airports, you will not have this problem.Sorry about the inconvenience.-----------------------Scott CannizzaroPPASEL-KTEB

Scott,Wow! With your new uploads I was finally able to see the scenery and IT IS FANTASTIC! The frame rates are easily double what they were with your old scenery. Thanks so much.Unfortunately, as you can see from the images below I am suffering from a duplicate buildings problem. I know, I know that I am supposed to replace cities.pod with your cities_no_NYC.pod. From the pics below you can see that neither my scenery/shared nor my scenery/newyork folders have the cities.pod nor can I find this pod in any folders on my FlyII drive.Any ideas?Alan

Do you have a D203159 folder? Is Dave Arrowsmith's scenery file in there?-----------------------Scott CannizzaroPPASEL-KTEB

Is that NYC night, Ken Salter's night download? If it is, remove it and see if you still have the duplicate scenery problem.-----------------------Scott CannizzaroPPASEL-KTEB

I removed Ken Salter's New York night scenery and all the duplicates disappeared. Of course, now I don't have the water mask and twinkly night lighting but I can live with that for now. Maybe it will force me to do my own Terrascene of NYC using the NY State ortho photos available on the net.BTW, you may want to mention Ken's scenery in your next set of release notes. Also, I only had Wtc.s01 in Data203159.Thanks so much for your help,Alan
