Fly!II - FS2002 - Fly!II - FS2002...FLY!II

Hello all:Here's the deal. I've got this computer, see. And I'm running MSFS2002 and of course Fly!II (which I like best, I might add). Well, I've spent $70 on FS2002 (Pro Edition) and it ain't as good as Fly!II (Non-Pro Edition). I still run 2002 sometimes for kicks. I enjoy the scenery and ATC, but for "real intense" sim-flying its TR's Fly!II. If I unstall FS2002, which allows you to tweak the dickins out of most any aircraft, then I feel like I've wasted my money. So, I tweak...And I tweak...And I tweak some more. Buy a few add-ons. Explain to the wife. Convince myself it will "make it better" and tweak again. Download...Unzip...Run and Install. Tweak that thing once more ...again...again. I don't think I need to go on. Tweaking that is. With Fly!II you "set it and forget it". So I've come to the point where money, time, and hard drive space on FS2002 is enough allready. I'm not angry, just dissatisfied. Yeah. There're some problems with Fly!II. But on the big take it simulates Aviation well. Real well. Not like Xplane (have it/enjoy it) which simulates air and the planes movement through it quite well. Fly!II simulates Aviation. Not scenery, sound or bonus features. Aviation. On an IFR flight plan shooting an approach through a low ceiling environment, you can allmost break a sweat. I like that. And, I haven't had to buy an add-on yet. Wife likes that. You know, I think I may just do that. Buy an add-on for Fly!II. Being discontinued and all and with one web-sight pulling most of their Fly! stuff, maybe a show of $upport will brighten the the bleak future of the Fly! series. Even discontinued it's the best sim going. Even without a "Pro Edition" thanks

Just reverse the names FLYII & FS2002 in your rant, and you'll be close to my experiences... :)It was FLYII, that took all the patches and tweaking for me. The other sim has run near flawlessly from day one.L.Adamson

Lots of harddrive is the key word here I think.

Fly II is also my sim of choice for all the reasons you state plus I like flying over TS2 scenery. But for an occasional change of pace I'll take a spin in FS2002. I kinda like entering patterns in the SF260 from 4,000' straight up! No more boring left or right entry patterns for me.:-hah

You know what? That's a good idea. Just get a bigger hard drive. ...simple but effective.thanks

>You know what? That's a good idea. Just get a bigger hard >drive. ...simple but effective. >>Gooooooood! :) Because looking at the term "aviation", I decided that my definition must be different. I really enjoy lower level mountain flight, where the peaks are above my plane on each side. This is where MSFS has the advantage over FLY because of better low altitude graphics and auto-gen. It also has an excellent airport/airstrip data-base for all those "out of the way" airfields. But still, as far as I'm concerned, nothing yet beats those screenshots I got with FLYII and the So-Cal scenery, high over the mountains of Southern California. I just like "photo real" I suppose..Two MSFS, one FLYII picsL.Adamson

G'day Larry, I really enjoy lower level >mountain flight, where the peaks are above my plane on each >side. This is where MSFS has the advantage over FLY because >of better low altitude graphics and auto-gen.Really?? My MS20002 must be different to yours. When I do low flying and look out at the terrain I see textures doing the "soft shoe shuffle" jumping around which completely detracts from the whole experience. Brings back bad memories of the earthquakes in FS95. I prefer Fly! II at low altitude any day.one picture from Fly! II Cheers,Roger @YSSY

Roger----Is your FS2002 mip-mapping on or off? With it on, there should be little to no texture jumping. Just nice calm, and smooth... :)Our FS2002 is the same............... our CPU's, video cards, and graphic settings must be quite different.L.AdamsonAthlon 1900XP (getting near 1st birthday)Geforce3Ti500512DDram

G'day Larry, >>Is your FS2002 mip-mapping on or off? With it on, there >should be little to no texture jumping. Just nice calm, and >smooth... :) Went back and checked - mip mapping is ON , anti aliasing ON , everything ON. The general operation FPS seems OK but I'll just have to continue to disagree with you about what constitutes smooth scenery. On closer examination it appears to be corrections to the terrain mesh as the textures seem to morph in a vertical direction. I am not talking about textures at the horizon Larry but close up textures and medium distance textures. There is a preset flight called "through the Alps" Give it a try and see if you can see what I'm referring to.>Our FS2002 is the same............... our CPU's, video >cards, and graphic settings must be quite different. My system is AMD 1800 XP, Nvidia Geforce2 GTS/Pro and 1241 drivers with default Ms2002 graphic settings. I doubt that this is causing the texture morphing. ( well it doesn't in the other sim. ) >Athlon 1900XP (getting near 1st birthday)- time for an update :-lol Cheers,Roger @YSSY
