a clue to the "No such file or directory" errors? mayb

I just was playing around with some areas near Olympia in Seattle (customed TS + some TM packages from the file library), and ran into this error:Msg: unknown model extension (LIGHTHOUSEN.SMF,norm)File: modelmgr.cpp line 194errno = 2 (No such file or directory)I'm getting lots of these "no such file" crashes, even when I seem to have the appropriate files (as I do in this case). But I wonder if this is a clue - the place I've put above was really a bunch of non-ASCII characters, looking for all the world like a non-null-terminated string. I wonder if there's some problem managing filenames - a buffer overrun, corruption, or failure to null terminate a filename somewhere. I'm just making a completely wild guess here (I have never seen this code), but at the very least, the error message I got above with a lot of non-ASCII stuff sure makes it look like such a problem.Don't get me wrong, I love Fly dearly, but unfortunately I just cannot run the latest version since I crash out to the desktop so much. I'm going to remove all my added packages and see how it goes, but half the fun (imho) is adding eye candy to the thing :)Madmax

Well, it gets curiouser and curiosier. I can shoot my theory above down, because I poked around a little more and discovered that the data file referencing those models was corrupted with the same non-ASCII characters. However, the original archive was fine, which means somewhere in the process of un-zipping (with winzip), I got corrupted data. That sort of thing is pretty scary - it might explain a whole world of problems I seem to be having, including problems with my old TS-areas (which I had stored in zip format).I might try ditching winzip, and trying a GNU unzipper and see if that helps matters any. AFAIK, my system's HW is rock stable. It runs 24/7, all kinds of software, with nary a problem in sight. Either winzip has a bug, or I have stumbled upon some hitherto-undetected system problem.Madmax

(LIGHTHOUSEN.SMF,norm)If you have added the lighthouse and not put the coded line in the factory smf you will keep getting this error. Check the readme file of the lighthouse model that came with the zip !!!All The BestStevehttp://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/aragon.jpghttp://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theukLiverpool John Lennon Airport http://ftp.avsim.com/library/sendfile.php?DLID=17455Blackpool Airport http://ftp.avsim.com/library/sendfile.php?DLID=19103Hawarden (Chester) Airport http://ftp.avsim.com/library/sendfile.php?DLID=18370Isle Of Man Airport http://ftp.avsim.com/library/sendfile.php?DLID=18972

The lighthouse model will corrupt it's own reference in the scenery.sXX file whenever you save from the scenery editor in FlyII. You must have a scenery file in your Data folder that contains the model or one of the downloaded sceneries has the scenery file corrupted in it's pod file.If you are using the lighthouse model from Vin, I would first remove the reference from the scenery.sXX file that contains it, restart FlyII, place the lighthouse only, quit FlyII, rename the just added scenery file as lighthouse.sXX or something and lock the file. Then place your original scenery files back.-----------------------Scott CannizzaroPPASEL-KTEB
