Creating Taxiways

Recommended Posts

Guest

I am very new to the forum so apologies up front for any procedural, protocol errors. As an enthusiastic user of FLY2, I have just started tinkering with creating scenery especially for airports in South Africa. I am especially keen to create detailed scenery for Cape Town and Cape Town International(FACT)for FLY2.Having read through the Terramodels manual, I am aware that in order to create FACT, a good starting point would be with the taxiways, aprons etc. This is done from what I understand through Terramodels by using a bitmap image and then 'overlaying' the runways.I would be very grateful if anyone could advise me on how to obtain the bitmap image of FACT for this.I have tried the options as described in the manual with no luck as this is a South African Airport and not covered through the suggested options. This is driving me to distraction and this is my last resort, so any assistance would be very welcome.Call me what you will, but an airport with no taxiways is no good and the grass 'option' for the heavies is a no go for me either! Thanks in advance !

Hello & Welcome! When I create taxiways I use the taxiway editor in FlyII. Its in the main FlyII directory, inside the folder "taxiway editor".I personally have used aireal photography and official documents from pdf files, converting them to bmp. In really rare times I have gone to ms2002 gone as high as possible over the airport and taken a screen grab and used this as my template. Then once you have done that things can be a little fiddly but its worth to practice quite alot. Im quite busy right now, but if you have anymore questions we will be glad to help.Steve.http://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/aragon.JPG][/divMy United Kingdom Scenery.http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=...&Go=Change+View

Cape (what is your name?),TerraModels is an excellent program, and will help you situate your scenery models (buildings, signs, aircraft, etc.) properly if you can locate an aiport taxi diagram for FACT.As far as making taxiways is concerned, the program you want to use is Taxiway, which you will find in the taxiway folder of Fly! II (if you've properly updated and patched the program). Check the FAQ at the top of the forum page for procedures and files if you haven't upgraded your installation yet. You will also need an airport chart bitmap for this program. You should be able to obtain airport diagrams and charts from South Africa's air authorities, or from pilot supply houses. Then, scan the airport diagram to create your bitmap for both Taxiway and TerraModels. It getting more difficult to find these freely available online - I've purchased flight chart software that allows me to get many of these airport layouts for airports outside the U.S.

I must say, dealing with handles can be impersonal. If I can call you Mark, you can call me Bob, how about that?
