London City Airport Update

Recommended Posts

Guest Steve Brown

Last night, I was going to upload EGLC London city airport. After the informative post by our friend Dave Taylor I have found this part of London may not be terrascened. The Airport is surrounded by water and the Thames River. It just isnt right on land.So Im making my own. :-) http://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/avsim/YSOM0003.jpgSteve.http://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/aragon.JPG][/divMy United Kingdom Scenery.http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=...&Go=Change+Viewhttp://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/avsim/bart.htm

Hi Guys :-wave OK, I have now extended the River Thames from Dave Taylors London scenery, past EGLC London City Airport, and a bit further on from there. Im going to see if I can take it further :-) http://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/avsim/YSOM0004.jpgIf any of you guys out there have repositioned the default models and still have the files could you please let me know. CHEERS!Steve.http://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/aragon.JPG][/divMy United Kingdom Scenery.http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=...&Go=Change+Viewhttp://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/avsim/bart.htm

Looking forward to this one Steve as it's one of my favourite destinations when I'm flying with Vatsim.Unfortunately, no ILS approaches but the LOC/DME one works well. The addition of the river makes all the difference to the look of the place.Andrew Luck18 miles SW EGSH

Hi Steve,I have a large .jpg of the east of London, but I came across the "Meridian" problem and when I made a scenery pod of it nothing showed.I tried quite a few times, even renoving all the other surrounding scenery pods, but still to no avail. I know that David Taylor came across this problem also.Could you e-mail me your address and I will send you copies of the Heathrow and Gatwick pods for you to try .I have also done a pod of East Midlands with Birmingham pod to the west, Leeds Bradford to the north and Luton Heathrow to the south, but again the scenery only appears as half a tile and smetimes prevents the adjoining scenery from showing. I tried ptting the pod in the shared folder but it made no difference, so now I am stuck.Paul

Hi Paul :-wave This is a pain is'nt it, of all the places in Great Britain! How big are the files you have, as I only have dialup connection :-( Im quite pleased with the look of what I have done so far, its a pitty we cant land on the water on the thames, as it will just be like landing on land... still you cant have everything :-) ysomdesign@brown8506.freeserve.co.ukSteve.http://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/aragon.JPG][/divMy United Kingdom Scenery.http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=...&Go=Change+Viewhttp://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/avsim/bart.htm

Thanks AndrewAfter looking at all the photo's I have of the Airport seeing it on dry land with no water just wasnt the same. I took the colouring of the texture for the river from a satelite picture of the Thames area. The only problem I have now is the further up Im going the textures dont want to stay together. So I may be forced to stop going down the River soon. Plus I have some framerate probs to resolve, I think its the default models.http://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/avsim/YSOM0005.JPGHahaha, I thought this one was going to be finished and uploaded in a day :-lol Steve.http://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/aragon.JPG][/divMy United Kingdom Scenery.http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=...&Go=Change+Viewhttp://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/avsim/bart.htm

Now you will be able to follow the Thames River from Dave Taylors wonderful London scenery, past EGLC on to the sea. A few more tests, podding and then its all yours. If you do download this scenery, I highly recommend (?I cant spell for toffee) Dave Taylors London scenery... go get it!Steve.http://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/aragon.JPG][/divMy United Kingdom Scenery.http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=...&Go=Change+Viewhttp://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/avsim/bart.htm

Hi Paul B & Dave T :-waveI was sitting here and pondering!Think back to Frank Dhonts scenery. He laid photorealistic scenery on the ground around his Airport in Belgium. Did he not use a different approach or method? I dont know what Im talking about here as its something Im very patchy on, but would his method work in this area?Just a thought Steve.http://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/aragon.JPG][/divMy United Kingdom Scenery.http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=...&Go=Change+Viewhttp://mysite.freeserve.com/fly2theuk/avsim/bart.htm
