June 26, 200322 yr I need a new monitor but I don't know what to buy. I consider to buy an 18 inch TFT monitor (e.g. Sony SDM-X82). I read somewhere that the responsetime for gaming should be under 20 ms. But the Sony has a responsetime of 30 ms and the Samsung 25 ms. What are your experiences with TFT monitors and especially in relationship with responsetimes?
June 26, 200322 yr I have been using a Viewsonic VX-500 TFT for a year now. I am using the DVI input, so it`s digital all the way, and the quality is so good that I will never look back to a CRT. My response time is 25ms. Sometimes I can see just a little blurring when dark, but not worse that the CRT`s were. Don`t buy a monitor with response time higher than 25ms. Even this value is too slow on some TFT`s. I was planning to buy the Samsung 172T, but then my vid card died so I`ll have to wait...Another thing: They try to sell TFT`s on the net with one of those stupid ISO "standards". That means you can get a TFT with dead pixels.I will never understand that the public accepted this bull...people are blind today and have too much money!Buy your TFT in a store only, where you can inspect it yourself ;)
June 26, 200322 yr Hallo Hans,For games and especially simulators as FLY and MSF a short response time is vital.I have seen several TFT monitors wich did not make me wanting to buy one.Maybe it`s very wise to try the monitor first and buy it when it givesthe performance you like.I would not dare to buy such an exspensive divice without testing it myself first.RegardsLeen
June 27, 200322 yr Hello Andrew and Leen,Thank you very much for your tips.I also read those ridiculous "dead pixel policies" on internet pages, which allows them to deliver a TFT screen with an "acceptable" number of dead pixels. I really think that buying a TFT monitor via internet is not a good choice. I will select a reliable store in my neigbourhood. Thanks again
June 29, 200322 yr Author I'm currently using a 22" ViewSonic P225fb Professional Series. It's a CRT though so as you can imagine, it dominated the area it's in. Hehe. Good clarity in Fly!II though. ;)John S.
