Simulator Has A Thumbs Up From Me!

Recommended Posts

Guest Steve Brown

I just have to go back!1. Don Peterson, Astronaut on STS-6 and one of the first men to Spacewalk on the Space Shuttle. He was also on the backup crew for Apollo 16. The much younger guy is me! :-lol http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/61846.jpg 2. The things I do for fun! I just jumped at the chance.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/61847.jpg3. Commander Steve!http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/61848.jpg4. Mission Specialist 3http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/61849.jpgOn the Simulated Ascent I was a Mission Specialist and even had to do experiments on the mid deck. For Descent I was Pilot. The commander and I landed saftly on the runway, deploying the Chute right on time for a wonderful stop. The graphics on launch and Descent were Phenominal, thumbs up NASA...The new Floridian, Steve :-lol http://mysite.freeserve.com/ysomdesign/index.html http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/dfdg/steve.jpg

Thankyou Randall.A great deal of Organisation :-) Also I was lucky enough to notice NASA had started the Astronaut Training Experience. ATX. Its not even officialy open yet, but here is the link to have a go yourself... http://www.kennedyspacecenter.com/visitKSC/atx.asp If you go to Florida and visit the Kennedy Space Center, this is a must. When you finish you get a bag of goodies too, including a years full pass to the Space Center ;-) We were the first in the program to try the Astronauts food and we came up with the idea to swap during the Shuttle Simulation. It was one of the best days of my life. Aaaaaaaaah, wifey just hit me :-( I did this as part of my Wrexham Air Space Project and website. Helping people to understand more about Human Spaceflight and how we all benefit from the "Spinoffs" from NASA's Experiments. My project finishes in June, but Im in the proccess of building the site now. My sponsors, the Millenium Award Commission, paid for me to do this wonderful experience. I also met an Apollo Astronaut & one of the Astronauts that spent over 80 days on Skylab, America's 1st Space Station. But learn more about this on my website... Soon!Im looking for more sponsors soon, I would like to start a space collection here in Wales, UK and planning to take this venture a lot higher ;-) Much much higher :-hah Stevehttp://mysite.freeserve.com/ysomdesign/index.html http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/dfdg/steve.jpg

Hi Rob, its good to hear from you too!To be honest I didnt think about it on landing. In the real thing and the simulator, the Commander and/or/pilot only have control of the Shuttle for the last 1 1/2 minutes. Mostly its typing in commands on the console to the left of the pilots leg and right of the Commanders leg and the throwing of switches. We had a list of things to do and when to do them, just like the Astronauts do. I was Commander for a while but wanted to be the Pilot for re entry to do more of the computer entry part. Slowing the shuttle down on re entry by doing shallow S turns, setting the flaps, retracting the landing gear and deploying the chute. All the commander had to do was keep the diamond in the circle on the heads up display and aim for the runway on the last minute and a half.If you guys ever go to Kennedy Space Center, do the ATX you will never forget it.Stevehttp://mysite.freeserve.com/ysomdesign/index.html http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/dfdg/steve.jpg

Wow Georg, Im very impressed. Im sure many of us would be interested in this way of making Germany a better place to fly. After all there are quite a few of us that like to fly around Europe. If its possible to buy these DSat5 CD's on the internet, Im sure many of us will. The colours our wonderful and Im glad your project is making the scenery of German great fun.A job well done, and thanks for posting these pics, you have got our interest :-) http://mysite.freeserve.com/ysomdesign/index.html http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/dfdg/steve.jpg
