In Memoriam

Recommended Posts

Guest Chris Wallace

I was one year ago today, on March 13, 2003, that our friend Rich Harvey was taken from us. People often speak of "losing" the battle with cancer but that was definitely not the case with Rich...although the cancer took his body, it never, ever defeated him. I like to think that he still looks in on us from time to time, lurking on the forum and smiling when he sees the latest wonderful creations being made by the community that he started and fostered. If you feel inclined to do so, please post a follow up with a favourite memory, or a screenshot of your favourite Fly! or Fly! II experience...or just take a private moment to remember Rich. Thanks.Chris WallaceOttawa, Canada

Hi, Chris and everyone. Thanks for your post. The other day,I was going through some of my old files and found a lot of things that reminded me of his contribution and dedication to our comunity. It would be quite an accomplishment if we would each be able to achieve in our life, what he accomplished in his, relatively short life. I know everyone is aware of the Scholarship, but there is another Fund, that could help his family, and I wanted to remind everyone of it. If it is not maintained, please let us know.Lauren Harvey Trust, C/O Morgan Stanley, P.O. Box 516189, Dallas, Texas 75251-6189TV

I truly miss Richards posts here. I always remember wondering if he would reply to a certain post I would see! Then bam! there it was with help or an explanation. It was always a buzz seeing him reply, I miss him.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/67006.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/67007.jpgSteve Brown, United Kingdom.http://mysite.freeserve.com/ysomdesign/banner.jpg My Websitehttp://www.wrexhamspace.orghttp://www.cafeshops.com/wrexhamspace

Chris,Thanks for reminding us. I truly miss him, I sometimes go back to the Beta Forum and re read his messages. Amazingly, I always discover something else that I wasn't able to comprehend at the time when he originally posted. Now that I've learned more about aircraft creation and other Fly! II stuff I'm able to understand. To me, that's one way in which he's still alive and with us. I hope the Beta Forum is kept alive forever, if for anything else, in his memory.Nice to "see" you around.Take care,http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/dfdg/banneraa.jpg

Very personal thoughtshttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/67045.jpgRichard Harvey was a young man when he had to die. Richard Harvey left us in a way an old and wise man would do. Sometimes death frightens me. You can believe me or not, it's not my personal death (only some ways how it could be), I am rather old and in peace with my life - but there are too many young people and even childs we cannot help from dying though doing our profession as good and motivated as possible. Sometimes I felt and feel that burden might be too heavy for me, when secret tears got into my eyes. Richard gave me more than FLY!. He, a much younger man than me, face to face with his own death, could give me consolation and words I will never forget: God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat.Whatever religion and

G'day All,I guess every regular to this forum has his/her own recollections of Rich and his willingness to give help to anyone seeking assistance. For me it was a post I made seeking help on how to clean up the dark spots off the windscreen of a project I was attempting. Imagine my delight when little more than 5 minutes after my posting a reply was made by none other than the lead programer, Rich. As luck would have it here was I 8,000 mls away downunder and Rich happened to be online at the same time. His solution was elegant, simple and worked like a charm. Not a week passes without memories of Rich entering my thoughts.God bless.Cheers,Roger @YSSY

I knew this day was coming and I had to read Rich`s last post once again. Truely, what a magnificent, insightful, man he was. His words and thoughts in that message are so genuine I added it to my favorites list. I pray his wife and family are doing the best they can. Has anyone tried to contact them?Qdog

Thanks for starting this thread, Chris. I still have some of Rich's personal e-mails on my system - don't think I'll ever delete them. As others have stated, it was not uncommon for Rich to respond personally to questions or issues - that alone made this sim so different from the get-go.From today:

This date has double meaning for me, because it's also the date my mother passed away five years earlier. I'll make it a point to also reflect on Richard's life, when this date rolls around in future years. I admired the guy..L.Adamson
