recommended texture pack for terrascening alaska?

Recommended Posts

Guest madmax

I'm considering launching into an Alaska terrascene project. I tend to do such projects in a big way, ending up with 100 Gb + of sceneries.I'm not sure the default textures seem quite right for Alaska, to capture the proper feel. Has anyone done this, and do you have any recommendations of texture sets to use?

Hi madmax,I use the textures released with Terrascene and those of FLY!. I choose those more appropriate and then retouch the textures. When I have reached a satisfactory level, I create a small portion of scenery and control the result.Dan

Hmm, well, thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I've had a setback, because it seems the default download locations don't have the high precision DEMs or land usage data for most of Alaska :-(Maybe there's some other download source for AK data - I'll hunt around.

Awesome! Thanks - in fact I just posted this question in another thread, which I'll try to go delete now :-)Thanks very much for the info. I will check it out shortly.

Hmm - well no luck so far. I tried that site, and I can get into the 7.5min DEM directory OK, but trying to traverse below that always ends up with a permissions error, no matter whether I use http or ftp. Neither does Terrascene seem to fetch anything from it :(

And to manually download the files?

>And to manually download the files?Same problem. I can see the contents of the 7.5min directory, and I can download the 00README file, but I cannot get anything under the lettered subdirectories. The result using IE is:"You are not authorized to view this page"If I try it from a command line with ncftp, I get:"Could not chdir to A: server said: A: Permission denied."Maybe they have shut off access to the data?madmax

Madmax,I just tried with the same result. However, if you go further down you can access /srtm and then get to the 3 arcsec and 1 arcsec directories.Colin
