FLY! Nimitz aircraft carrier

Recommended Posts

Guest HeliFLYer

Hi all,http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103384.jpgmay be some (or all???) of you know about the hidden treasure of the FLY! "generic.pod" - the Nimitz aircraft carrier.I was really surprised about the many details and nice features. Not that I want to play WAR with FLY! but landing on it with a helo or a small fixed wing aircraft is fun.The only problem is, the surface isn't hardened, you'll sink in.IS THERE A POSSIBILITY FOR YOU SPECIALISTS TO HARDEN THE SURFACE OF THIS WONDERFUL MODEL? You'll find it in the "generic.pod", Nimitz2.But until then we can use this model, you may do the work yourself(Nimitz.mlf: BEGIN Nimitz2.smf,"Aircraft Carrier",CGhlNSTu,Ships END)or load a small ZIP, a ReadMe.txt is included. I put some streets on the front part of the carrier, so you can land either there or on the elevator at the side.I try to upload the File FLY_Nimitz.ZIP to the Library as soon as possible.Have funRegardsGeorg HeliFLYer EDDWhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103385.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103386.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103387.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103388.jpg

Hi Georg :-) Its really cool isnt it!I think what has happend is, the thickness of the Runway (Deck) surface. Its hard at the bottom of the Deck instead of the top. If you create a surface to land on it has to be wafer thin.So you have this sinking when landing on the Deck.It might be possible to add an invisible surface to the Deck layer, slightly above it. Separete layer.http://www.wrexhamspace.org/avsim/fs002.jpg Not sure if I have the full know how, but I will have a little try and see if I can make a file. Only thing is, everyone would have to add this personaly, as we would need the makers consent to upload the model as a seperate piece.SteveMy Websitehttp://www.wrexhamspace.orgF2FDesign Websitehttp://www.f2fdesign.com/ My Fileshttp://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=...&Go=Change+View http://www.wrexhamspace.org/sig.jpg

Hi Steve, great you also like the aircraft carrier - and you demonstrated you are are great chopper pilot (elevator landing!) :-)If you could make a REAL fix that would be GREAT GREAT GREAT for we can then put the carrier anyplace, not fixed KSFO.If you could create a new Nimitz2.smf file and this is equal to the old for more than 90 % I could create a Patchprogramm, so the user only had to unpod the old Nimitz2.smf and it would be patched - this would eliminate any copyright questions!Hope you can handle it when you've got some time after the visitors have left you. Thanks in advanceGeorg HeliFLYer EDDWI put some more of your streets on the surface so one could land the Cessna - if he could. I tried it several times until now but came in either to low (big bang!) or to hight (Cessna is a bad submarine). Ok, I am no skilled fixed wing FLYer.After some testing this late evening, whether it really works, I will upload it as version 2.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103410.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103411.jpg

Sorry Steve,I don't understand the meaning of "I'm loosing it ..". :-hmmm Do you mean it is not possible to edit it with your tools? If so, could some other FLY!er help?Or could you create a "street" in the form of the deck, very thin and might be transparent (but hardened)????Hope, there is a solution for that.Thankyou and regardsGeorg HeliFLYer EDDW

You are right, Jarno... and for amateur pilots like me they already build arrestor cables at the end of the runways in Germany. Only, your Cessna is in two parts afterwards!http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103454.jpg(To be honest, I shot this picture when passing a mil airport!)RegardsGeorg HeliFLYer EDDW

Good news, Steve! Then I won't make an upload of my simple Version 2 (all the streets I took for Version 2 can be used for a small city :-) )Nevertheless, I'm now going for another AC-landing trial before going to bed, ordered already 50 new Cessnas for tomorrow.RegardsGeorg
