ATR 42-500 Repaints : Alternate way to put reg. # on ma...

This probably belongs in the Developer's forum, but I thought it might be of interest to anybody repainting the ATR...I noticed in the existing repaints that the entire base panel image seems to be replaced with an updated panel in order to have the repaint registration # appear on the panel. It's certainly the right thing to do for realism, but there is an alternative way to do this that only requires the repainter to provide a small bitmap that gets overlaid on top of the registration # on the default panel.I first determined the appropriate offset and bitmap size from the main panel, cut and pasted that portion (118x30 pixels) into a new image, obliterated the default ATR's registration number and this was my "base" on which I wrote the registration of my repaint XA-TRI. I saved this as xatri.bmp then converted to PBM/ACT.I then added a new gauge to ATR420.PNL, this is a very simple bitmap gauge that is not used very much since it really doesn't do anything except display a bitmap (the user doesn't do anything with/to it, it doesn't interact with any subsystems, etc.)//////////////////////////////////////////////////// Registration plaque. When repainting,// replace the bitmap image with your own custom// plaque that displays the aircraft// registration.////////////////////////////////////////////////// ==== GAUGE ENTRY ====bgge ==== BEGIN GAUGE ENTRY ==== ---- unique id ---- regr ---- x,y,xsize, ysize ---- 519 543 118 30 ---- bitmap ---- xatri.pbm 0 0 ==== END GAUGE ENTRY ====Later repaints just need to provide a new PBM file and then put that .pbm name in the PNL file. This saves quite a bit of space in the final POD and (IMO) is a bit simpler to manage. I will put this procedure on the Wiki ATR page when I get a chance...Chris WallaceOttawa, Canada

Hi Chris,I think it a very, very sharp idea.As I am used to do ( most often ) more than just the registrationI never thought about this. You are right it`s simple and saves space in the POD.This and the Paint-kit makes adeqauate repainting more fun.THANK YOULeen
