Landing the 747-300

Recommended Posts

Guest

I have had a great time flying this aircraft. My only problem is landing. Even in a 0 wind situation below 1000 feet it's very difficult to get this bird centered on the runway. It seems to have a habit of wanting to land anywhere but the runway. The closer I get to the ground the more difficult it is to control horizontally and veritacally.Any Suggestions?Andy

Andy,I've had that experience with any number of aircraft. I don't think it's anything inherent in the models. It well may be related to low frame rates close to the ground. As rates slow, you add more correction and nothing happens until the next frame draws. As a result, there is now too much correction. As a test, get lined up and try to grease a touch-and-go with the panel off (shift-C). This will double or triple the frame rate, although you won't be able to monitor speed or altitude. If it's easier to stay down the centerline with the panel off, then low rates become a prime suspect."Thank you for flying Leap of Faith Airways."

If you press the (I think)tilde key several times, you'll get a grey bar at the bottom of the screen that will display among others things, altitude and airspeed. Maybe of some use.Pete
