Getting Fly! 2K to recognize Radeon 8500

Recommended Posts

Hi there,I use Fly 2K and jsut got a Sawtooth G4 500 with an AGP Radeon 8500 graphics card. The machine is nice, but I can not get Fly! 2K to recognize my Radeon 8500. My only graphics schoice is software only.On my old B&W G3 running a 550 Mhz G4 upgrade card, I was getting decent frame rates using a flashed Radeon 7000 PCI 64MB Graphics card and the Radeon VCF File from the files library area.I never purchased Fly 2 because I did not have the hardware to run it, and was pretty happy with the V.88 flught models in Fly! 2K. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Buzzbee,I have no way to check, but an edit of the Radeon .vcf file ( in Fly2K > System > vcf) may get you going. First, make a copy of the .vcf and work on the copy. You might wish to rename it something like "AGPR8000.vcf" to define your card. The third and fourth lines of the Radeon 32MB vcf look like:0 // AGP Flag (0=no AGP, 1=High Detail, 2=High Detail+Triple Buffer)1 // AGP Must Exist (if AGP is non-zero on previous line)Change the first character of the first line from 0 to 1. Try 2 later if this works. Leave everything else the same for now. If the card is recognized and runs, then go back and tweak the texture slots appropriately to your card's VRAM. Search the AVSIM library for "tweak" and you'll find a tutorial on how to allocate texture slots. Also look at the very first line of the vcf file. It would be a good idea to add an 8500 to it; I believe this is where the graphics option window picks up the card name. Would make the card easier to find in the selection box.Again, all this is a guess, but Fly2K was pretty open as to architecture and used editable text files for lots of items. Keep playing with a copy of the Radeon file and you're likely to get it running.Allan
