Moving map display

Has anyone ever thought of encorporating the moving map display into the avionics of an airplane in FlyII? My project plane, the Lancair Columbia 300 uses a moving map display as a major part of its panel. So far, my realism efforts have been saved by the fact that this is an option when ordering a Columbia 300, not standard. But in the back of my mind, I've been wondering if its possible to harness the FlyII moving map inside of a panel rather than the pop-up window. I'm assuming this would be possible as a DLL. Would anybody know whether this is possible and perhaps give me their guess on the difficulty of the task? Just a bit of a correction Vin (getting ahead of yerself!! :-)) The SkyArrow will feature an older style of VFR GPS which does not contain a moving map; the TB-9 will feature a more advanced IFR GPS which does. Even so, "moving map" can be misleading because there is a ton of variability in what can actually be displayed. The default GPS (KLN-89) has a moving map too; but it certainly doesn't display the level of topographical detail etc. that is available on some of the fancy ARNAV displays.Chris WallaceOttawa, Canada

Dan,I have wondered about this as well, and like you the answer seems to be incorporating the Aeronautical Chart (Sectional) Map viewer code into the panel. Side note: How do you plan to do the 'side stick'? Isn't it Lancair that uses a side stick instead of a Yoke?The blank panel looks pretty good thus far! I bet somehow the Weather, Window, Terrain, Flight Plan, Aircraft System, and Bitmap primitive functions of the FLY! SDK could be rolled into something closely resembling the Avidyne display (I think its Avidyne).Personally, I was thinking more along the lines of the 400, and after looking over this months PrivatePilot issue I am also thinking of doing the Cirrus SR-20 or 22. I've been working on this project for awhile now...off and on. It is an incredible amount of work to do a panel accurately in 3D Studio. I made significant progress sometime back, but lately I've been working on my PPL, so the real flying is taking over my sim time.To answer your question about the moving map, I think a DLL that uses existing FlyII functionality for the moving map would be the best option. I've not yet tried anything like that because I was still working on the panel. You're right...the Columbia uses a side stick. I was thinking about having the side stick in the 3/4 side views. This would be important because the stick has buttons for the trim. Who knows when I'll actually complete the project, but I'll keep everyone here posted. Thanks for your interest and let me know if you make any progress on the Cirrus.

Hello Tom,Was looking through old posts to see if someone might be working on a Cirrus SR20/22 and found this one from you. I just flew a SR22 on Tuesday this week and was very impressed with the aircraft and the avionics. If you are still interested in working on a Cirrus project I'm up to help. There are some bitmaps from a FS2k2 project for the pfd in the file library from an abandoned project that are available for use. Let me know if you still have interest in pursuing such a project. FlyII would handle representing the avionics so much better than MSFS and this is a really cool aircraft.Zane
