Splines For Fly2

Recommended Posts

Guest Steve Brown

Guys I was wondering is it possible to create a small progam to create scenery splines for Fly2 IE for generic houses, roads and the like. This is used very well in other simulators like Trainz. And more to the question is do we have a programmer to do this...SteveMy Websitehttp://www.wrexhamspace.orghttp://www.f2fdesign.com/ http://www.wrexhamspace.org/Steves%20Card.jpg

What do you mean exactly, Steve? What would the splines be used for, and how? Do you mean as a guide to placing auto-scenery objects in somewhat continuous lines, like houses along a street? There are common algorithms for finding various types of splines given the set of control points, but what would the control points and the generated spline represent?Chris WallaceOttawa, Canada

Hi Chris,I have seen spline models in different programs, but only one way in Fly 2. Thats in the taxiway editor. The spline is used to lay the taxiways. What I would love is a program like the wonderful taxiway editor to create roads, trees, houses and walls/fences. Im no programmer but this is my one wish in Fly2.All the best, Steve. My Websitehttp://www.wrexhamspace.orghttp://www.f2fdesign.com/ http://www.wrexhamspace.org/Steves%20Card.jpg

Ah, OK...so you'd like a feature in the editor to generate a spline as a reference for automatically laying down a bunch of scenery objects, like trees or buildings. OK that makes sense. I'm not sure whether a DLL can affect the operation of the editor, but it's an interesting idea...Chris WallaceOttawa, Canada

Using the FlyII editor for scenery placement creates problems. The scenery does not always stay where it is placed.I have found the TerraModels Scenery Development System by Allen Kriesman to be the best. Sometimes the scenery (house, plane, building, etc.) do not fit properly. In such a case pressing CTRL-E to enter the editor allows a person to adjust the item. This also has drawbacks in that sometimes the item will not stay where placed. Is there a possibility of improving on Allen's creation to do as Steve has asked?
