Three questions

Recommended Posts

Guest danieletona

Hi all,I have three questions.1- Some days ago, I flew on the scenery Venice/Lago in FS9 and I was appreciating the included sound effects. My question: be also possible in FLY! "to hook" of the sounds to an object? Is there already perhaps this possibility? 2 - In the same scenery I observed the static objects that had some mobile parts as a radar. Be also possible in FLY! to move a part of a static object?3- To pilot a helicopter, besides the normal instrument of flight, it is used a lot of our perspective sense. In a simulator this sense comes to miss. What do I propose? The possibility to add some sights of the cabin.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/102300.jpgThanksDan

Hi Dan.We think alike ;-) I asked this a while ago, about static objects with sound, and I think Laurent said this may be possible with a DLL file.Sadly I have no Idea how to work with DLLs but I hope someone takes this up. I love the extra little sounds in FS9I too have been thinking of moving parts on static objects, I would love to see a Hangar door open on the click of a button. Let me know if you find out how? :-) SteveMy Websitehttp://www.wrexhamspace.orgF2FDesign Websitehttp://www.f2fdesign.com/ My Fileshttp://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=...&Go=Change+View http://www.wrexhamspace.org/sig.jpg

Hi all,My apologies for this late response.I can answer "yes" to all the questions : we can have sounds linked to objects that are started with some special conditions, like we can have parts of them moving according specific user actions or sim interactions (i.E. the wind ... like windsockets), and we can definitevely prepare some new point of views, quite easily, in the panel manager file to get some very useful sights out of the cockpit ... like J.Sabatier did with the Stagg.I can remember the apron project we talked about some months ago, that was a sort of colour object modification, based upon the distance from the user. All these developments go around a basic idea : create a static object in the Fly! scenery and prepare some actions to display (also with sound). The Fly! SDK has been definitively and purposefully created for that.I would be pleased to help if you want ... but ...... as I'm quite busy right now with a special Fly! development with F2FDesign ( a surprise ! Don't ask me more ...), I would let you prepare the models we want to be animated and the sounds needed. You can easily understand how the whole thing can be implemented if you prepare the model(s) as we did with the windsocket dll some time ago : a static model for the fixed part and a number of static models that represents the same dynamic model in different frames of movement (the dll should be in the avsim library).Cheers, laurent

Hi Laurent,I was also studying the FLY! API but did only some experiments with Python until now as I had no C/C++ Compiler. During my work with Landsat7 textures I had to study and convert C-Code to Delphi and worked as well with Dev C++ (I love it) and M$ VC 6 (Trial) so that I am interested how things are done with C-Code and the FLY! API.AVSIM deleted the windsocket dll code you included in your "reddwarf" post as they do after some time. So I would ask you to post it again when you've got the oppertunity and time.Thank you very much in advanceGeorg HeliFLYer EDDW BTW:Dan is fully right if he missed some extra views or better a camera that you can move free. Especially if you fly fixed wings and want to observe between 10 and 12 a clock (270 to 360 deg) to get a turning point.I experimented a lot with your "vomit camera" but as the aircraft moves and the horizont is fixed it is not the solution.Might be if you have some time in the future ... :-)For those who do not know Laurents free camera, here some pics:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103766.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103767.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103768.jpg

Hi all, thanks Laurent for your answer.I have made some tests founding myself on the ownerships of the windsocket. Unfortunately the results have not been as I hoped. If I don't mistake the DLL of the windsocket, it founds him on the variable of the wind. I have tried to change the "name" of the type of object: mobj, sobj, etc. NOTHING!The static objects can have import with the 31 frames. The problem is to succeed in making to move them. Probably the solution is under our eyes. :-eek I would like to insert the sounds in the scenery Venice, as in that of the Lake. Also in this case the window exists in the editor that proposes this possibility. But also in this case nothing.I attend one signal of yours.:-jumpy Hi Steve and LaurentDan

Hi HeliFLYer,the images are suggestive. To me it interests to have three sights all in the same window so that to have a panning of around 360 degrees. In the central window the panel, and in the other two sights the doors. The hovering is one of those procedures that only with the instruments it is impossible to be done without the aid of external sights.Even if I don't love FS, I have to admit that some idea is good. For example the possibility to be able to open more windows with different sights. As have said, the flight in helicopter effects him with the instruments but also with the surrounding world and to my notice to FLY! it misses really this possibility.Dan

Hi Dan,now I understand what you like to see. I seems you can handle this kind of views as you practised it in M$ FS.But our brain is trained (in real life) to coordinate your movement (ie hand/stick) with more than just views: - forces (important instrument: behind /"####"), - ear (vestibular organ), - position of your head/neck.So I get really uncoordinated and sick if I have my head to front and see at a sideview-picture, more if that is pasted into another view. Ok, that's just me, if it works with you ..As long as you haven't got this help (..if ever possible) I would give you some advice how to help yourself with the limited possibilities of a sim (Please excuse, I do not know your skills, so if you are a real prof, don't read further!):First:Get a reference point on the ground! Even high-resolution textures are not the same we have in a real heli when coming near to ground, all those small details you can see. If you have a known landing-place and there is no reference, put one there. This is really reality, as you HAVE more than one there in real life! If you look at the pics you'll see that little cone (Steve) I put there to manage a good centered landing. The horizont is a second reference but will be shown due to your helo-position in hovering at that is related to the wind - if you FLY! with real weather or at least your own weather conditions.Second:Switch off the big panel. Most of the instruments are of no value near the ground. Put the most important into the left (right or whereever) lower corner, so you have some information too.Third:Very important: you must have a very precise joystick, extra throttle (long way!) and pedals. I could only afford the Saitek X45/Throttle which is a rather cheap but (after some tuning) precise tool.Torque-setting is very important, if your throttle isn't precise enough, use the collective trim keys (I use Num3 Num9).Here some pics to demonstrate what I meanhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103861.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103862.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103863.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/103864.jpgRegardsGeorg HeliFLYer EDDW

Hi all,The "windsocket" dll has been done to interact with the wind force and direction ... for your project I need to modify the dll in order to have an interaction with ... some external action, or some continuous circular movement. We don't need 31 frames like in planes, but a number of differents same objects as they result after the interaction mentioned above. As an example : windsocket without any wind force consideration needs only one objet to rotate around the pole. But with the wind force we need to have 4-5 different positions ... Does it make sense ?So give me the models and sounds (you can send me an e-mail (Giorgio has my address) ... even in italian if you wish). We unfortunally can't have many different windows with scenes views (as Fly!1 used to do) ... but we can use a LAN (avsim library) and have as many sights as you wishes (one PC for each window would be nice, isn't it ?) ... this point has been yet fully developped here and at simvol site ...The "vomit" camera lacks of horizontal behaviour due to a bug (?) in the y,z axes ... is there any workaround ? I haven't any time yet to search thorouthly ...I will post the windsocket code again ... maybe in the library ... Cheers, laurent

Hi Laurent, thank you for your prompt answer and explanations.>>>>I will post the windsocket code again ... maybe in the library ... Fine, then they won't be lost again, thank you!>>>>The "vomit" camera lacks of horizontal behaviour due to a bug (?) in >>>>the y,z axes ... is there any workaround ? Yes, I actually made the DLL but I wasn't satisfied with the Z (roll) behaviour ... I think there must be a way to have it better ... but it's for future developments ...Ok : I'll post the code this evening.Cheers, laurentC

Hi Georg,we say that a small experience with the helicopters, I have him. ;) What you say is perfect and the images are explanatory. However you have the possibility to see an only sight to the vault. If you could have on your screen, we say three sights, that cover a panning of around 120 degrees, you would not use expedient anymore. Dan
