GeeBee progress

Hi folks, just a little post to let you know that I HAVE been rather busy with this. The GeeBee is coming along OK - here's some 'work-in-progress' shots while you're waiting :-hahFirstly, fix the bleedin' oversized/overbladed/overdecorated prop. There, done! Oh well, it's black - I'll fix THAT later...http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbc68d829f8723e.jpgMuch playing with texture mapping - too many hours staring at screens full of numbers - I know how 'codebreakers' felt :-( Then, some light at the end of the tunnel - I'm getting good at spotting 'x' coordinates !??! Some changes and fingers crossed... I created some colour swatches and applied them to check the modified indexing, uh huh? You beaut! I've got a texture for nearly everything!http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbc691a2b8fc421.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbc69472c1de01f.jpgOK. I've got this sorted out, I'll just re-apply the existing textures and see what happens... Oh my gawd :-eekhttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbc69702c8ada1c.jpgOK, OK. The resfile's a mess, texture-wise! Now to try out using the 'mat.txt' file to re-allocate the textures properly. Ah, stuff it - now I have to DO the textures properly so the references can be aligned. A bit later (like a day...), dry run with some quick textures coming up - expecting crap and... voila!http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbc69b32d5c42b5.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbc69d92e0bb857.jpgNot bad for a first attempt I suppose. I have sharper textures to use but these prove the remapping. I

Looking really good Jon !How did the bottom of the wings work out ?Hope you enjoy the work :-)Here's a few of the shots I took of the only flying version of this aircraft (replica) to keep you inspired :-)http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbd34882cd1afcc.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbd34ae2d17081c.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbd34d12d889e50.jpg

Thanks, Staggs! And thanks for the extra shots. I'm 'fining-up' the textures soon and I need all the detail I can get. The wing textures use separate texture files for each upper wing so the graphics should look good (256 x 256 each wingtop). I wasn't happy with the detail level with all wing textures in one file. I HAVE used one common file for both lower wings though, 'coz I ran into a problem trying to BSP any more materials :-( Dunno why but when I go over 12 textures she falls apart! Still, that's two more than Rob told me I'd get :-hah Some of the texture mapping is broken-up over many parts - the original problem! I have alleviated this by using a couple of RGB textures (ie non-file) in white to cover things like the tail. I'm searching for somewhere on another tile to fit the 'GeeBee' tail logo. When I've got it, the logo WILL be there. If not, it's the ONLY thing I couldn't fix!PS See my latest update posted today!Jon Point*************************(effyouthree@hotmail.com)*************************

"...See my latest update posted today!"Actually, I'll do it here - no point bumping news off the front page! Here it goes... (another) update on the GeeBee R2! I uploaded some preview pix yesterday and someone emailed me and said "yeah, right - show me both textures at once..."(sigh) So here 'tis, some shots trying to show both sides at once. I don't know - the non-believers out there!http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbdb7fe58d662ac.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbdb82459597d6e.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbdb85b5a18c7fc.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbdb87f5a782f61.jpgStill have to sort the cockpit and finish the callsign sounds - won't be too long :-)Meanwhile, guess what I found at SEA yesterday? Two fools in thundering beasts, hootin' around a short circuit. http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbdb8cd5b69d6a4.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbdb8f25be8375e.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbdb9145c4e38af.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbdb9515cccc369.jpghttp://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3dbdb9805d768d84.jpgMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, looks like fun!!!Gunna love this racin' stuff... :-beerchugC ya,Jon Point*************************(effyouthree@hotmail.com)*************************

Thanks, Tom :-)I was wondering about the port/starboard lights! At least I now know where they are! I couldn't find any 'calls' in the file at all for these so I didn't know where to put them. Considering the thin wing edges, I knew they couldn't go there. Your shot showing both sides of the tail is great - thanks again.I AM having a few problems with the texture allocation for the resfile. Texture MAPPING is OK though, as the previously uploaded shots attest. My problem is a steeeeeep learning-curve with little assistance from any documentation and some half-developed tools (LG's ones, not the beautifully-developed tools by our FU3 colleagues :-) ). Like all the wonderful people before me, I too have had to disassemble files and try all sorts of stuff to find out how things work :-( I have an even greater admiration for them now - 'on ya guys' :-beechugI have been asking Ansgar some questions and, armed with his input, we'll be flying in no time :-hahWhilst all this is happening, a couple more things:1. There will be two aircraft! One is the replica racer that we all know and love, the other is based on a photo of one of Jim's R/C planes - the black and yellow one. It even has 'Jim' written just below the canopy :-kewl The resfile will come with the replica textures and a livery package will be included for 'Jim's Racer'.2. The replica gets 'Golf Bravo Zero One' callsign, the other gets 'Golf Bravo Zero Two' (I wanted it to say 'GeeBee Jim' (or 'Slow down, you fool') but it's too hard...).3. I haven't seen Steve's cockpit yet but I will need it to finish the job.4. Have a great weekend!Jon Point*************************(effyouthree@hotmail.com)*************************

I think this forum is becoming totally insane.Come on Tom, bring these guys back into line. We can't have responsible adults (oh, and Jon, Jimmi, Chris and the rest of us) flying pipsqueek airplanes around clotheslines on a public forum. Racing each other.Show some of that firm discipline that you've never showed before (but maybe wait a few weeks first until I can figure out how to beat Jon's GeeBee in my trainer).Have a great weekend all!
