Future graphics

I found this under a technical description of the upcoming NVIDIAS GPU:".......Older GamesThe high-precision GeForce FX architecture also improves the visual quality for previously written games. Higher precision results in more detailed texture blending. This helps all games written in either DirectX 7.0 or DirectX 8.0............"Only hope that the limitation of FUIII's 16 bit resolution does not prevent new graphics hw and sw to bring about benefits as Radeon's new line does not seem to provide much improvement - or has anybody any other experience?rgrdsTorsteinNorway

16-bit FSAA is being implemented on the Radeon 9700 series right now. Check www.rage3d.com.That is the only limitation with the Radeon cards and FU3 right now.As for other improvements, the GFFX won't be able to provide anything to FU3 that the Geforce4 or Radeon line already does.

I would like to see a graphics card that can make the terrain textures in the near distance look sharper. Even anisotropic filtering doesn't seem to sort this out.......it only reduces the texture shimmering. When you are flying, you will notice that discrete "slabs" of texture sharpen as you approach, and then blur as you move away. This is done in very noticeable "steps", rather than a smooth, gradual process. This would be fine if it was done at a much greater distance from the observer, and the added bonus would be much sharper textures visible at a much greater distance.Let's face it, the power for this is available now in the latest PC's. We will all just have to upgrade. Well, maybe not those with 2.8Ghz+ Pentium 4's :-)Chris Low,ENGLAND.

It seems the Flight3 engine has some built-in mipmapping, that is done regardless of what videocard you have. Even if I set LOD-bias to -8 and enable Anisotropic filtering, the FU3 graphics engine is still causing the textures to become blurry in the distance. With most games, setting LOD-bias to -8 would result in extremely sharp, but also extremely grainy textures in the distance. The 2.8 GHz Pentium4 is old news :) It's all about the 3.06 GHz P4 now :D

Jimmi,Yes, but by all accounts the 2.8Ghz Pentium 4 can still shift FU3 graphics like **** off a shovel :-lolChris Low.
