no radar on sunday

Recommended Posts

During my web search for airport pictures of Sandown and Bembridge I discover the memorial page of the Dakota G-AGZB of the Channel Airways that crashes in bad weather near the top of St. Boniface Down over Ventnor. See the page at http://www.farvis.com/ventnor2.htm and read the full story of last flight 'NO RADAR ON SUNDAY'. After reading I decide to make a memorial plane for the UK-South region using the last Version of Ansgar's DC3. Create the new version using Gideon's ResViewer. http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/DC3GAGZB1.jpghttp://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/DC3GAGZB2.jpgThe last seconds of the last flight of G-AGZB march 6. 1962 http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/images/CoombeBottom.jpgMeanwhile the elevation of the full megatile between Bembridge and Ventnor is adapted to the geographic isolines and synchronized to the coastline. The elevation quality allows to follow the crash path of G-AGZB in the Coombe Bottom between Ventnor and St.Boniface Down.As next I will make the both airports in this megatile Sandown and Bembridge then follows the upload of a new package for UK-South. Later I will publish a short tutorial on how to refine elevation of megatiles. To do this is just a couple of painting hours and then an special import with the new GeoTilesViewer. Tool ant tutorial will be uploaded as soon as possible. :-wave agtim

Hi Agtim,I guess its no secret to 'the regulars' that the IOW is my 'home patch'.Sadly there have been other fatal crashes elswhwere on the Island, one of the more noteworthy being the crash of the Short Sandringham (Solent) flying boat, G-AKNU of Aquila Airways at Shalcombe, (Chessel Down ,west end of the Island) a few years earlier than the DC3 in November 1957.http://daveg4otu.tripod.com/iowweb/iowc.htmlhttp://www.gdtp.freeserve.co.uk/chessel%20then.htmhttp://aviation-safety.net/database/1957/571115-1.htm(It was one of my Dad's first incidents as a fully operational 'firefighter', his log book from that night makes interesting reading):-wavePete

Regarding the new textures, I downloaded them and used ResViewer to import them into a "no dome version" of the DC3. There were some glitches on the wings near the fuselage and I found that I hadn't used the latest version. No problem, I looked it up, downloaded it and tried again. Result: the script won't work and ResViewer hangs. I've tried to import them one by one (single) but ResViewer hangs and corrupts the *.res each time. (It creates a temp.res that I have to delete to try again). Anyway, the original DC3 as well as the script with the replacement bitmaps look fine. Moreover, when I look at the replacement bitmaps they look just as the original ones, in terms of texture area and layout. They're all 65 kb so they're not 32 bit bitmaps. What could be wrong here? I'd like to use this UK livery for my separate UK South installation.best regards,Hans Petter

Were these textures done for the v1.20 DC3? In any case it shouldn't matter as v1.20 uses identical texture mapping to the earlier versions.Hans-Petter,Try just importing each file separately (there aren't many) and try that. I just did it here (don't tell the boss...) and it's fine. See?http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3e8903335ad0a3bc.jpgThere IS something wrong with the script - at least for me (and you, too) :-( I think the author should retract the package, fix it and re-release it. It's a nice 60's paint job AND it's for UK ;)Agtim,BTW, thanks for the repaint - I noticed the palette is almost identical to the original (about 6 colours different). Are the original graphics still available as you can easily make a better palette using iMage (see elswhere on forum)??? Let me know if I can help. That said, we need more UK planes and this is good :-waveJon Point*************************(effyouthree@hotmail.com)*************************

Oh yeah,My graphics don't say 'Channel Airways' either so there's another reason to pull the package and re-release it ;)Jon Point*************************(effyouthree@hotmail.com)*************************

Hi All,Strange things , I will check and we will see.The script worked at my last test with the version 1.2 of the dc3.I had problem and freezes with the Lufthansa version. I did not understand why. there are just pictures and a palette and the name.I have just changed the red colors and replaced some on them with the new colors. Cockpits views need then to be repaletized to avoid yellow warning lights insread of red ones. And I am now very experienced in repaints, this is just my second plane ;-):-wave agtim

Back after check, shame on me :-( file 55 was an old one without the Channel Airways text. Now this is changed. I changed a filename also having used the extension .bin for the file 88. now I have use .hex as in other rvs scripts. I am using ResViewer V1.32a but now I have tested this version using ResViewer V 1.2 and it was OK. When you are using DC3G202A.res first remove the write protect flag and rename it to DC3GAGZB.resYou will get an error if the write protection is not removed !I have rebuid a fresh plane using this new version of DC3G_AGZB.zipdated to April 2. 2003 and all is working fine.hope it works for you also :-):-wave agtim
