Ever considered a microlight?

For those of you who would like to try something different there is a new kid on the block. Flight Sim Models specialise in the creation of Microlight aircraft for FS2002 and can be found at http://www.store.yahoo.com/flightsimmodels/At present two aircraft are offered for download - the Breese 2 and Breese 1000 Sprint - both manufactured by M Squared Aircraft. Others, including the Aerolite 103 and the Flightstar, are planned for the not too distant future.I've downloaded the Breese 2 and can say that it is an excellent microlight to fly. These aircraft are far superior to anything that has been offered for MS simulators before. Like all new offerings there is the odd bug or two which need ironing out and Lee and Kyle, the owners of Flight Sim Models and microlight pilots as well, are very receptive to suggestions for improving their models and offer an excellent support service.Microlight flying is quite different from flying club aircraft or the big iron birds. The Breese does not have a VOR, ADF or Artificial Horizon, nor does it come with any radio or autopilot. Cruising at 45 kts and landing at 30 kts with a stall speed of around 18 kts is the order of the day. This is real seat of the pants stuff where you fly real VFR. I, myself, fly VFR by loading Microsoft's World Atlas on my laptop and constantly checking my position in FS2002 against the laptop. If you have some good mesh scenery loaded it is amazing just how accurate FS2002 is for this type of flying.Lee and kyle are to be congratulated for venturing into what is probably quite a niche market as far as flight simmers are concerned. At $14.95 per aircraft they are fairly priced and offer good value for your money. Go pay them a visit - they deserve all the support they can get.David

I do quite a bit of FS2002 ultralight/microlight flying, but with some of the excellent freeware A/C currently released. K. Johnson's Firestar, Gyro, and other A/C are among the best, and commercial quality.Now that I've retextured the Carson valley in NV, I'm going to do even more UL/ML flying. Nothing's better than cruising in Kevin's U/L gyro 50 feet above the scenery....John, KPHX

John,Since you're familiar with Carson, make sure you take your U/L and buzz Centennial Park (mountains nearby elevation around 5200). As you might remember, that's where the U/Ls seem to fly all the time -- we see them while we're out on the tennis courts (probably because it's just a short jump over the hill to the airport).And on that subject -- do you *have* Centennial modeled? I *must* be able to see the courts, baseball fields and golf course if I'm flying at 50 feet .
