London City progress

Recommended Posts

Here's a few screenshots showing the upcoming London City. There's more work to be done but the basic layout and the most prominent models are present. I'll edit and place a few more ground objects (grass / concrete) and ship it down to Robert for the final touch.Hans Petterhttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/22938.jpghttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/22939.jpghttp://forums.avsim.com/user_files/22940.jpg

Robert Driscoll did :-) Most of the models are his and I'm just placing them. I have got to the point where I can make my own grass and concrete textures though.best regards,Hans Petter

Wow it looks spectacular ! However at the risk of being shot down in flames I think the use of the grass siding for the taxiway detracts from the photorealistic nature of the imagery. It also stands out from quite a distance. Of course if I am the only one than thinks so I can always take it out using FLED. Anyway a truly great looking package. Well done.Cheers, QvdG

The grass has been retextured since I posted these screenshots. Now the whole area is covered with grass that has seen less fertilizers than the bright green grass shown above. In other words, it blends better with the underlying and surrounding photo texture. However, all of the grass textures are in the optional "London heavy" add-on package. If you opt out of this one you'll get the runway, the main airport buildings and no grass textures on top of the photo-realistic base texture. The problem with any photo-realistic texture is that it looks best from afar. While it all looks absolutely terrific from 1000 - 3000 ft the resolution isn't high enough for close up viewing. That's why it's a good idea to add ground textures (two-dimensional, textured polygons) to areas that will be viewed up close. This means apron, taxiways and runways with adjacent areas. I might post another screenshot but the package will soon be in the library and all UK simmers may check it out themselves :-)Hans Petter
