AT6 & nice DC3 (Attn: Jon Point)

Recommended Posts

Guest Robert_S

Jon,Here is the AT6 that my friend photographed, parked next to a primo DC3. These aircraft belong to Clay Lacy, who owns an executive jet transporation company. These are just some of his "toys". The DC3 is kept in "better than new" condition.

Unfortunately, the project didn't work out. The lighting was insufficient, and unavoidably rushed. Though there are some decent photographs showing some detail, like the landing gear, some interior shots, stuff like that, the straight-on, well-lit side/back/front views didn't happen. There are about 120 shots. If you'd like, I can copy them to CD and snailmail them to you. Let me know. They are all 2048x1536. Quality is hit and miss.

http://www.avsim.com/other/usaribbon.gifBob "FlyBert" StilesAVSIM Moderator

"Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"~Richard Harvey, 1/21/2003

Bob,Ain't she purty? This looks like a nice scheme as well - paint is muuuuch easier than metal with 256 colours ;)I'll send you an email with my address included, if you would like to send a CD. I'm not making any guarantees yet, because I'd like to go flying for a month or so before starting something new. Maybe we could have a T6 as a Christmas present!:-waveJon Point*************************(effyouthree@hotmail.com)*************************

Jon,After I sent you that message, I went back to the collection of photos with a better attitude, and some are pretty good! With the help of Paint Shop Pro, some of the darker ones could be fixed. The pics below are some of the better ones, but with brightness and contrast increased, and resized to 700 by xxx for posting. You'll get the originals "as shot" (at high resolution) and you can adjust them with a graphics program to your desire. They're all JPGs, not BMPs, I guess they came out of the camera like that.

Hopefully you can make an Unlimited AT6 out of all this. :-)

http://www.avsim.com/other/usaribbon.gifBob "FlyBert" StilesAVSIM Moderator

"Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"~Richard Harvey, 1/21/2003

Our fearless photographer, Tom. He put major effort into getting these photographs.

With Staggerwing's help, and some websearching of my own, I have learned that this aircraft, N164CL, S/N 85056, came out of the factory in 1958 as an SNJ-5.But who cares? :-)

http://www.avsim.com/other/usaribbon.gifBob "FlyBert" StilesAVSIM Moderator

"Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"~Richard Harvey, 1/21/2003

For more pictures of that DC-3, including shots of a quite-comfy interior, click on the following link.http://www.wingswheelswatercraft.com/plane...dc3c_45_pix.htmI have learned that Clay Lacy was United's senior pilot when he retired.

http://www.avsim.com/other/usaribbon.gifBob "FlyBert" StilesAVSIM Moderator

"Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"~Richard Harvey, 1/21/2003

This is all looking too cool! The T6 should be a (relative) snap with all these great photos ;) Don't suppose you could get 'em to spin her up for some sound recordings...?Seriously, I probably have enough rotary engine sounds now :-waveJon Point*************************(effyouthree@hotmail.com)*************************

Yes, but won't the drinks spill when it's on its tailwheel on the ground? :-)

http://www.avsim.com/other/usaribbon.gifBob "FlyBert" StilesAVSIM Moderator

"Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"~Richard Harvey, 1/21/2003

Hey, good point Bob. :)Isn't it time taildraggers were banned on the basis of liquid instability? Or can we unhook the gyro from that useless dial on the front (I don't need a dial giving me attitude - I've got stacks of attitude already) and attach it to a little tray-table that keeps your beer level in loops. Its all about priorities.RobD

A gyro-stabilized tray table! Capital idea! :-hahMaybe we can get Jon to include one in the AT-6 when he creates it. Oh... no tray tables in an AT-6? Heck, Jon can fix that! My friend Tom, who photographed that aircraft, says that there is TONS of room in the back seat. :-)

http://www.avsim.com/other/usaribbon.gifBob "FlyBert" StilesAVSIM Moderator

"Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"~Richard Harvey, 1/21/2003

And they say we're not innovative! Well there you go. I'll leave the merchandising to you Bob - my last good idea (the sideways shaped plane for the Reno races) never really got off the ground despite Ansgar's breakthrough work in design.RobD.
