A continuation of Flight Dynamics

Recommended Posts

To "lightly" continue this subject:How come MSFS is still using aircraft models that are who knows how old, while xplane takes the actual shape of a plane to calculate 'real time' flight dynamics? So far............ it hasn't seemed to matter much. Although the X-Plane flight models are calculated differently, they still have many problems hitting the "numbers" or even "feeling" correct. It still takes a bunch of "tweaking"!! Fact is, there are just some made for MS flight models out there, that really seem close! The DF Archer is one of them!!L.Adamson

MR. L.ANDERSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!I just wonder why, "So far ...... it hasn't seemed to matter much."? Give a teenager a set of car keys and he/she will need to change their shorts regardless whether the car is a pinto or a lamborghini. Simple minds are not hard to boggle. lolHitting the numbers you call it is the most elementary part of flight dynamics. ANYBODY can program the numbers in Vso, Vs1, Vle, Vfo, Vne, etc. It takes a talented knowedgable programer whom knows how to access the appropriate wing data in order to program coefficients of lift along the ENTIRE wing AT ALL ANGLES OF ATTACK. This procedure, will provide the highest fidelity flight model. In kids terms "the FEEL" of it. As the angle of attack for the wing changes the coeffient of lift, which is specific to each section of the wing, is changing in correlation to speed, weight, drag, air density, etc. By spending the time to collect the appropriate data and then program it, you get a high fidelity product. I can't tell you Larry how disappointed in the aircraft that are included in FS2002. At least in FS 2000 they included the concord which was quite a nice treat to fly. Perhaps in FS 2004 they will fix the blurries and a new plane (maybe the new MEGA airbus). Of course that will depend upon if MS has enough BASE code to add a few new things to it so it won't take to much time to develop... Did you notice that when the original FLY! came out MS came out IMMEDIATELY with FS 2000! lol perhaps they need to REBUILD their BASE code for the sim. What do you thing Mr. L. ANDErSON?Your Buddy,CB :-wave

Hi, "FLY! came out MS came out IMMEDIATELY with FS 2000! lol "Clarification, Ms release each 2 years Msfs if there is others sim or not! MsCfs Combat is always released if there is others combat sim or not!ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFshttp://fsw.simflight.com/fsw.jpg

Chris,Reclarification! We are not talking PAST tense. If MS FS is issued every two years then we would have seen MS FS 96. There is no such MS FS 96. MS FS98 was the first major release for flight sim in serveral (MORE than 2) years. It's an awefully BIG coincidence that MS FS 2000 came out 1 month after FLY! came out. At this time MS WAS NOT releasing a new version every two years as you suggest. There was no established history for periodic two year releases untill MS FS 2002 came out. Then we had 3 seperate releases 2 years apart. At the time FLY! was released there had only been ONE, COUNT YOU ONE! major MS FS release in the previous 4 years which was MS FS 98.My diatribe ends for now.CB :-wave

MR. SONAR,That type of comment is unnecessary and is just FUELING the potential for a SIM-VERSUS-SIM conflict. We MUST ELIMATE this SIM-VERSUS-SIM conflict in AVSIM it is not conducive to a construct environment. Please keep such comments to yourself. Mr. Chris and I were just CLARIFYING some confusion on his part regarding the release date of MS FS products.CB

Fact is, there are just some made for MS flight models out there, that really seem close! The DF Archer is one of them!!L.AdamsonLarry,I never went "wow" over X-Planes flight models more im afraid a case of "whats the fuss about?" ;-(Right back in the days of FS95 the most realistic experience with MSFS was at night with the autopilot firmly engaged.Rob Young and I went on a crusade to persuade people to look at control feel in the flight models and to eliminate the oversensitivity. We met huge resistance in the forums started endless strings and found an almost universal denial that MSFS models were anything but perfect and were infact reality in a sim :-)Now those same people champion the new control feel displayed in models like the DF Archer and most flight models turned out today.Go out of the normal envelope in MSFS and we have a disaster area. Try and rectify these defects and you are faced with an almost impossible task.Attempt to put one area right and another goes wroung :-)The code available today has hardly changed from those heady days of FS95, but peoples expectations have. That fact alone may force Microsoft to rewrite the FM code to finally give us the ingredients to make a better cake, but its a pretty crude imitation even now.Peter
