I just completed a flight from one region to the other. I chose the Beechjet for speed and took it to 40,000 ft to get the best true speed (TAS). A quick flight school lesson: The indicated airspeed of 210 knots shows within a narrow speed window. At 40,000 ft there's a quite slim margin between stall speed and overspeed. On the other hand, 210 kias (knots indicated airspeed) translates to 420 knots of true airspeed (TAS) and (in this case) 410 knots of ground speed. This means that I had 10 knots of headwind when the screenshot was taken, otherwise TAS = GS.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/59007.jpgThe sea looks a bit funny in the outer terrain, at least from an altitude of 40,000 ft. I did this flight myself just at the weekend. It's a real treat in Ansgars 747 (thank you, thank you Ansgar)It sure would be a good use of the current format to plug the gap between the 2 regions if it is ever possible. I remember it being a nice region too, with Highway 1 running along the coast.One Query, when I arrived at San Fran and contacted Bay Approach, the lovely lady took me on a scenic tour of the region for a bout half an hour. At one point she had me crossing San Fran airport at just 2,000 ft. Seemed a little dangerous to me.First post for a year by the way. It's good to be back and the sim is as lively as ever.Nothing beats it.GraemeUK

Graeme, that "lovely" American lady will ask you to go around and try again whenever the speed / altitude equation isn't right. In other words, if you're too high or too fast she'll redirect you. I tend to drop the gear / undercarriage as soon as I can and use that parasite drag to lose altitude and speed. Then I deploy flaps and revv up the engines as required to fly low and slow. If I find myself too high I'll do a 360 turn to lose altitude. best regards,Hans Petter
