Boeing Field

Recommended Posts

I have just been having a good look at Boeing Field in FU3, and I noticed that there are problems with the AI planes. Several planes appeared to be stuck, and a Concorde had exited runway 31L to the right after landing. The problem with this is that it had stopped with its nose stretching right across runway 31R :-eekThis got me thinking. The FU3 version of Boeing Field is a bit of an AI plane headache, and I am wondering what to do about it. What I would like to see is the AI planes exiting the runway to the right, and then using taxiway Alpha to get to the north end of the airport, before then crossing runway 13R/31L to get to the main terminal. The AI airliners that are departing should ONLY use taxiway Bravo to get directly from the main terminal to the runway 31L threshold. The problem with this is runway 13L/31R. Since this is an active runway for smaller planes, the AI arliners need to hold short after exiting runway 31L. Unfortunately, these two runways are rather close together, which results in situations like that described above with the AI Concorde.I am seriously considering closing down runway 13L/31R, and removing several small AI planes (particularly those that are designated as "P", since we don't want Cessnas practising touch-and-go's on a huge runway that is being used by commercial airliners). This would (hopefully) allow the AI airliners to exit the runway to the right, and then taxi to the main terminal via taxiway Alpha. I could force the issue to some extent (by disconnecting certain AI pathways), but I would prefer to do it properly if possible.Anyway, I will need to experiment with this. I just posted this message so that others could provide some feedback. Let me know what you think :-)Chris Low.

Chris,"I am seriously considering closing down runway 13L/31R, and removing several small AI planes (particularly those that are designated as "P", since we don't want Cessnas practising touch-and-go's on a huge runway that is being used by commercial airliners). "I agree wholeheartedly. I have already removed many 'P' AIs for this reason (and not only from BFI, also SEA, Tacoma and a few in Sanfran). Besides, Boeing Field is (and should be) waaaay too busy for a lot of light aircraft traffic.BTW, Ansgar is working on the new AI which will have Twin Otters and Dash-8s in it. I'm not sure which aircraft is being replaced by what (he has told me, I just forgot) but certainly we lose the Chinook and possibly the low-rez 767. Maybe you could coodinate with him and have the parking spots ready-to-go when the new AI lands?:-wave******************* Jonathan Point *******************

Jon,As far as I am aware, Ansgar is waiting for you to send him the AI version of the Dash 8. Are you saying that you have already done this ?With respect to updating the AI parking spots, I already have the necessary changes mapped out. When the AI Pack is released, I will be able to complete the upgrades on the same day.Apparently, the Dash 8 will replace the Boeing 777, and the DHC6 will replace the F18, Chinook, Balloon and Blimp models. This presumably means that adding an F18D parking spot will result in DHC6's appearing, since we cannot add the other three models directly using FLED. I will need to check this when the AI Pack is released, because the F18P parking spot is currently used for the F22 Raptor.I would like Ansgar to send me a beta version of the pack, so that I can get this sorted out before it is released here, but it might be too large to send via e-mail. Maybe he has that file splitter that Hans sent me once ?Chris Low.

Folks,They're coming, they're coming :-rollI just have to finish the other livery but, before I do that, I MUST finish the DHC-6 crash models, then she's ready for upload. If I can do it tonight, you'll all have 3 more aircraft to fly on the weekend :-jumpyIf not, it'll be early next week :-waveAnsgar,I got your info OK, I've just been bogged-down with the cockpit. It's fine now but I had to remove and reinsert a lot of cockpit instrument stuff. Your tip worked, BTW and I removed all the bitmaps down to #100, then added the 76 new ones (not really new - many were pinched from other aircraft). The trick was NOT to save and close the file until I got up to #134 or it would crash :-( Still not happy about the 'night' bitmap generation so I toned down the brightness a bit and use the same bitmaps for day and night for instrument needles and the HSI.I also got the radios working properly too, with a fully functioning 'hsi new' and 2 nav radios. Had to steal a section of the Bravo's flight model to make that work ;)Now all I have to do is work out how to import a GPS!:-wave******************* Jonathan Point *******************

According to a friend (who works within 1 mile of BFI), the only large traffic there relates to aircraft maintenance. From this, it appears that the main runway is NOT the major traffic option at all! He said that SEA was the exact opposite with >1,000 operations per day, of which very few use the smaller strip. Oh, and no touch 'n' goes after 2200, OK?:-wave******************* Jonathan Point *******************

That is amazing detail Jon! What is also amazing is that FU3 can use most of this, through Juoko's work and the traffic density tables etc. And I think we can use most of the lighting systems (although FU3 is not good on the approach lighting types - I had to fake it for Stansted etc by matching lights to photos of the approach).RobD.

Rob,Yes, the details of which taxiways are used by which aircraft I found rather interesting. I'd be interested to know if we could make FLED comply with these requirements!Chris,Sorry for the barrage of info but you'd be amazed what I hang on to ;)Ansgar,"My answer regarding an "developer forum" at Daniels homepage:We shouldn

Second that Jon!As I said above I also think that Daniels forum is better in structure and give an better overview. The only question now is if the others of us think the same and we can jump over from yahoo to Daniel....Take your time for the Dahs8 to complete it

Ansgar, and Jon, 2gether,Daniels forum,I Second all thats been sed so far.I was aganst a therd sight at first bicous of spreding us out too thin. But having seen Daniels forums I like them, and I prefer Daniels forums to yahoo. And I hope the UK-South project moovs over to Daniels forums. The only drorback to Daniels forums is that theres is no option to post a snap-shot.Sumtimes its dificalt to explane tecnical questions and ansers without useing a snap-shot.Thats the drorback of avsim, it keeps old threds but not old snap-shots.glidernut.:-wave

Hi Glidernut,I've just had a quick look through the help on Daniel's forum and it looks like it's possible to post images. You can post an image URL within [ img ] tags and I believe that should embed them into the post, you just need somewhere to host them. Most ISPs in the UK offer some web storage with their accounts so all you'll need to do is ftp your image to that, then post the URL on Daniel's site. Your snapshots will then only disappear when you (or your ISP) delete them, I posted these shots (http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=set_linear_mode&forum=130&page=&topic_id=5516&prev_page=show_topic) a year ago today and they're still there.Just a thought...Rich.
