April 2, 201016 yr Author Erik,After you have installed FU3 from the CD, the only patch that you would require is the official FU3 patch (available from the AVSIM FU3 File Library). You just have to make sure that you install the correct version (US, UK, or German). In addition, if you want to install the FU2 San Francisco scenery, then make sure you do this during the main FU3 installation process. April 3, 201016 yr Thanks Chris for the tip regarding the patch. It is just that I have a full install already archived (with your SF & seattle 2005 scenery extentions, AIupdate, tuned graphic settings, all kind of planes etc) with only the flight3.exe and fled.exe files deleted, since they were infected. So it would be quite a work saver for me if you, or someone else, could send me just the zipped exe files straight from the harddisk. (EN version). Thanks in advance, Erik
April 3, 201016 yr Author Do you have the UK version? I could probably copy them directly from the CD (I don't have FU3 installed).... April 3, 201016 yr Do you have the UK version? I could probably copy them directly from the CD (I don't have FU3 installed)....Chris, no thanks, I managed myself by a minimal install from the CD's. It required the patches which are no in the library anymore (only empty entries). But I found them elsewhere (see XP install tread). Shall I put them in as new entry (US+UK) ? Are you in the meanwhile enjoying HD superdetailed simming in FSX? You had your share of FUIII, understandable to move on. I saw some youtubes with tileproxy, very impressive. I'm still in XP and still have places in seattle 2006 to discover :-)Kind of you to still check the very silent FU forum though, happy Eastern.Erik
April 4, 201016 yr Author I am now flying exclusively over England and Wales in FSX. That will be extended to include Scotland when complete high resolution photographic scenery of that region becomes available. April 9, 201016 yr So, we're still here :( Old thread for sure, but we're still coming back. A long time ago I stated that FU III is the sim that stays. By today's standards it's old and there's no follow-up version. A lot of us have migrated to FSX but the FS series has been discontinued as well, at least for the time being. I'm doing FS9, FU III and (since a year ago) X-Plane. I'm a dedicated flight simmers. I do no "games". Still, I'm spreading myself thin. X-Plane as well as FS have their strong points. Right now I'm busy with X-Plane helicopters. FS does helicopters, albeit with a limited helicopter "engine". FS fans may choose to disagree but helicopters really take a lot of computational power to act right and FS helicopters take computational shortcuts. Unlike winged aircraft they don't have any inherent stability. FU III will never do helicopters at all since there's no helicopter "engine". One COULD make them fly as a blimp which is really being treated as a fixed wing aircraft with a humongous amount of drag. That's really not a blimp and it wouldn't be a proper helicopter by any stretch of the imagination. However, FU III still does fixed wing aircraft superbly. FU III has graphics limits that may seem a bit outdated by today's standards but it's quite amazing what can be achieved within these limits. My current FU III looks way better than the one I installed from the original disks several years ago. Further, with a tiny bit of mist an updated FU III easily looks better than FS9 or even the latest X-Plane version. Then there's the weather. The ground handling -- none of the others has proper ground handling yet. It's time to fly an FU III Archer again, in pouring rain. Now I've got the hardware to crank up the weather settings without slowing the fps to a crawl. The beauty of running an old sim on 2009 hardware!
April 9, 201016 yr I'm in complete agreement...When you consider that FU hasn't really changed since it was originally written (I'm guessing 1993 or 1994) it's really impressive for what it does. I only started simming a couple of years ago and still (with limited experience) think the flight physics is amazing. As for the graphics, well when I get wound up over my banded sky (slightly obscured by haze...) I just remember it's 17 years old, blame ATI, and start smiling again. I think the thing I like most though is that making modifications is soooo easy (though making new aircraft may be a different matter and more than I'd want to tackle!).I noticed a //comment in one of the LGS text files (rules or .cfg or something) along the lines of 'If we ever cover the whole world...'. The fact that the makers were enthusiasts and thinking so far ahead of their design remit really shows through. And it's nice to be able to fly with all the sliders up at max.
August 8, 201015 yr Hi there,I'm also still there - though I have been very busy lately which restricted myself to lurking in the background from time to time...Blue Skies,Steffen
August 9, 201015 yr Hi there,I'm also still there - though I have been very busy lately which restricted myself to lurking in the background from time to time...Blue Skies,Steffen/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Welcom abord Steffen, And congratulations, I think your the first one to post anything since the new avsim. Its very quiyet around hear, not very bisy, infact I was a bit consernd that avsim might shut doun the FU3 foram duw to lack of interest, Im so glad thay didant. glidernut john lewis Ps, sory about the speling, I dount do speling, life it to short.
August 16, 201015 yr Another one still using FU3 (only occasionally, though). I don't visit the forum very often these days, so it's nice to see some activity.Anyone got the code yet? I'd still like to see a multiscreen FU3!Best wishes to everyoneChes
September 27, 201015 yr Still Flying my old and long lasting friend.Although not very often as I Migrated to X Plane I call FU4.Hi to all .
August 22, 201114 yr Hi I have had FU3 for years now but reinstalled it last week for I had a yearning of simple pastime with quality. I have most all downloads from 99 and onward, its nice to see how simple it is to install and stay. I need to find out why FSS is not letting me transfer to FU3 on this system and this is how I found this Forum. The reason I like FU3 is its type of entertainment. I screw up it goes on my record and stays along with its stable running. Flying with gliders is quite relaxing because of the realistic flight dynamics. Its user ease of Fled is so nice to have as an option, it does not let me feel stuck if needed. So fly on and on and on....................................... Caption Plank
August 23, 201114 yr Still wheel out the Mooney now and then and see where Hennie Van Rooyen's FU3 Pro [ Avsim library] takes me to from Tacoma Narrows. I think my main reasons for keeping it on my system are 1. The feel of the sim ---- quirky---- FS 9 is the Suit and Tie of the FlightSim world, whereas FU3 wears jeans and a lumberjack shirt.2. The humour built into the challenges- even more so in its predecessor FU2. Definitely a keeper for me. Stuart
August 24, 201114 yr 1. The feel of the sim ---- quirky---- FS 9 is the Suit and Tie of the FlightSim world, whereas FU3 wears jeans and a lumberjack shirt. I'd go along with that. You don't have to wipe your feet first. Shades of Don Sheldon and Mort Mason.
August 24, 201114 yr Hi Dave ............wasn't Spatchcock Poussins with Springsteen's E Street Band ? Stuart
