A New Dimension

Recommended Posts

Guest andy9164

No your vision isnt blurred!!!Combining another one of my interests (3D Photography)with my favourite sim, I loaded Nvidia's 61.77 drivers and 61.77 stereo drivers, put on my silly looking red and blue glasses and away I went.FU3 throws up a few funnies on some of the views and the framerate drops by 50%, but what the hell, those mountains sure have some depth to them.I have posted a few screenshots (sorry it also loses a bit of quality on the screenshots)flying around Half Moon Bay, so sit like a numpty (english slang) with your funny glasses (available from most good video rental stores) and add that extra dimension.Admittedly, the slow framerate and "eyestrain", not to mention the embarrasment factor of wearing silly glasses make long trips impractical, but if you have an Nvidia card, its worth a try.Andy

Great idea! Now where did I put those old glasses? How do you make this happen in FU3?Robert.

I'll try again to post, so far 3 attempts and it no worky!!!Two things you need (well 3 if you include an NVIDIA graphics card)NVIDIA Graphics drivers ver 61.77 and NVIDIA stero drivers 61.77You can get them here. http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d_stereo.htmlLoad them up. Start FU3 and when you are on the taxiway ready to go hit CTRL T. You will see the screen go red and blue. Put on your glasses and away you go. When you are suffering from eyestrain or the tired of the kids constantly laughing then hit CTRL T and you are back to normal.I have to admit that you cant do a screen capture within FU3 so I cheated and took a photo with my digital camera (which somehow only came out in B&W, it was late in the evening), but you do get full colour when flying and it helps if you turn the gamma up a bit.Apparantley it works on all Direct3D or OpenGL games, so give it a whirl.Any problems let me know.Andy

Maybe Fsscreen can help "capture" the moment. It's available here at the Avsim library. What did the shots look like when using Flight Unlimiteds' screen capture(ctrl+alt+P)?Heh... maybe put them fancy "shades" on your digi camera. :( Take care,JimB.

Hi Andy,Wales looks very good. Have tried the new driver of NVIDIA.my card is a GeForce MX 460 / 64MB (Driver 6.13.10.2832) using DirectX 0 (5.012600) with 6xAntialiasing.It is the default of WinXP Installation.now after uninstall of the driver above and installation of 61.77 drivers polygons are killed by Antialiasingand 3-d view cant be activated. What are your settings / DirectX version ?ThanksAndr

Agtim, did you download both sets of drivers (61.77 graphics drivers and 61.77 stereo drivers). See earlier in the posting. If you open the properties box for your graphics card on the little menu that pops out on the left you should see in there reference to Stereo. There are some tests you can do and you can increase / decrease the seperation of the layers depending on how much eyestrain you can cope with. I have mine set at 35%.My anti-aliasing is set to 8x and atiostropic filtering to 4xS. My directX is the latest from the microsoft website (I think it 9.0b)I am running GeForce Ti4200 with 128Meg. There are other little problems with these later drivers where you get a mouse trail when in F2 or F3 view. In the stereo view, depending on your view, sometimes in the left and right top corners you get other pieces of the view.I have to say it was only an experiment and unless you have a really high speed CPU and huge graphics card then the severe drop in framerate makes it a little impractical to fly. I understand that this is because it is trying to process 2 images for each frame, a left and a right view, and having to merge them together.Let me know if you still have problems.Andy
