Queen's Golden Jubilee Concorde Finale Fly-by

Recommended Posts

Yah boo! Dig your own hole, English Republican! You enjoyed watching the aircraft, which wouldn't have been there for you to see but for the monarchist celebration, yet you want the Queen to pay for the dispay herself! As someone who watched and enjoyed it too, why don't you send twenty quid to the Ministry of Defence as your contribution? Surely, the right thing to do!No offence meant, all in good fun. TwisterI am not going to start a war in this forum :-) there were over a million people there, many just using the event as an excuse to party and enjoy the spectacle and their friends on a day out.For me seeing Concorde and the Red Arrows had nothing to do with the Queen other than Concorde being the "Queen of the skies".I wouldnt relish being one of the royal family not being able to be themselves :-(Even all that money isnt fun if you cant use it for fun things like my own personal Eurofighter to do a pre breakfast inspection of my country at 200 feet :-)A few years back they would have had your head off for comments like you made ;-( Now they are powerless, part of the heritage a figurehead. But Twister think of all the revenue generated that day with television rights worldwide, millions of burgers sold, hotels packed to the brim and the other 1000 and 1 items.Twister, you would have made a fortune if you could invent a Royal Family! makes dusting off Concorde and the Red Arrows for a quick fly past seem like peanuts costwise in comparison to the revenue ;-)Peter

You said:"Are you American by any chance?"Somewhat of a hypocritical pre-conceived opinion on your part, wouldn't you say. What does being American have to do with his comments. Absolutely irrelevant post on your part, IMHO. Much like my reply.I enjoyed seeing the pageantry, as I wish they would show the same for the only royal family in the USA. Those of the Hawaiian Islands. The flyover looked awesome, and Peter, I shared much the same thoughts. That beautiful Concorde, along with the colors of the Jack made it very cool, indeed, all politics aside. Here in the USA, it is much the same for Memorial Day. It was designed as a tribute to those Veterans that gave their lives for our freedom, and many take it to be just another springtime party excuse.Regards,Joe :-wave.Oshkosh Pictures From 2001 (Part 1) 78 Pics in Frames with 1mb in ThumbnailsHigh speed connection Recommended:http://home.attbi.com/~flypics1/FrameSet.htm.Oshkosh Pictures From 2001 (Part 2) 106 Pics in Frames with 1.5mb in ThumbnailsHigh speed connection recommended:http://home.attbi.com/~flypics2/FrameSet.htm.Picture Gallery of My Flight in a 1945 SNJ-6 on June 1st, 2002Joliet, Illinoishttp://home.attbi.com/~jranos/FrameSet.htm.http://home.attbi.com/~jranos/mysig.jpg http://avsim.com/hangar/air/bfu/logo70.gif

Twister,<>You seem to know the cost of everything and the value of nothing!<>That comment say's more about you than the person you are aiming your cheap shot at. It's just as well we're not as shallow as you. Most people judge others by the content of their character and not by their physical appearance. Oh, BTW, the Queen is 76 - one fact you failed to get right!I appreciate that not everyone is pro-Royal but your comments are downright rude and not really welcome in a forum dedicated to discussion on aircraft. From one Brit who is proud of his country and of the Royal Family.

My question was a question, not an opinion! I often find that Americans are anti-royalty. I was just curious as to where the poster was from before I made a 'pre-conceived' comment, as you suggested. My only feeling here, as a Canadian, is that Americans often (not always, but often) don't understand that the Royal family is fully supported by the British public and by the Commonwealth, for that matter. Sometimes I get the impression that many Americans feel, erroneously, that the Royal family is thrust upon Brits without their consent. The Queen may be the richest woman in the world but her wealth has not come from British taxpayers (she pays income tax!). Her wealthis as much herown as anyone's is, royalty or not.I think the response to the jubilee is an amazing show of support for tradition and ceremony. John-PaulToronto

Just a little bit of trivia to add to your post.A lot of people refer to the British flag as the "Union Jack".In fact, it is the "Union Flag". It should only be called the "Union Jack" when it is flying on one of Her Majesties' ships.Barry

United States Citizens Anti-Royalty.....Please, be real here...Do you not remember the outpouring of love and affection when either the Queen, or Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited our country...Hmmmmmm, I don't remember any rude protests along their traffic path. I don't remember any protests at all. That is about one of the most hypocritical statements you have made today. And there are a few, IMHO.Do you even have any evidence to back up your rants.. ???well, do you.....?You said:"My only feeling here, as a Canadian, is that Americans often (not always, but often) don't understand that the Royal family is fully supported by the British public and by the Commonwealth, for that matter. Sometimes I get the impression that many Americans feel, erroneously, that the Royal family is thrust upon Brits without their consent."Supported fully, eh... ok whatever you say. I am sure you have some poll or something where it states that. So now as a Candian Citizen, you not only know what United States Citizens think, now you know what everyone in the UK thinks as well. Well, that's logical I guess... :-)You also said:"Sometimes I get the impression that many Americans feel, erroneously, that the Royal family is thrust upon Brits without their consent"Evidence please, or an apology for this statement. Where did you pull this one from? And this one:"I think the response to the jubilee is an amazing show of support for tradition and ceremony."You see, there is some logic rolling around in your thoughts. I agree with that statement 100%Maybe you should be the one toning down your rhetoric and backing up your statements with facts.Or simply read what you write before you hit the send button.Regards,Joe :-wave.Oshkosh Pictures From 2001 (Part 1) 78 Pics in Frames with 1mb in ThumbnailsHigh speed connection Recommended:http://home.attbi.com/~flypics1/FrameSet.htm.Oshkosh Pictures From 2001 (Part 2) 106 Pics in Frames with 1.5mb in ThumbnailsHigh speed connection recommended:http://home.attbi.com/~flypics2/FrameSet.htm.Picture Gallery of My Flight in a 1945 SNJ-6 on June 1st, 2002Joliet, Illinoishttp://home.attbi.com/~jranos/FrameSet.htm.http://home.attbi.com/~jranos/mysig.jpg http://avsim.com/hangar/air/bfu/logo70.gif
